spcl4cs_gal Posted March 28, 2016 #1 Share Posted March 28, 2016 When cruising in Alaska or the Panama Canal does Princess open up the bow of the ship for viewing purposes? I remember sailing with HAL (Noordam) to Alaska and they opened the bow for us when we were in Glacier Bay. :)
Coveguy4 Posted March 28, 2016 #2 Share Posted March 28, 2016 The crew only area on the bow with their pool does not open to the public. There are plenty of viewing areas above where you get a great view. It does get crowded doing the PC, doing Alaska people come and go as viewing changes constantly
CruiserBruce Posted March 28, 2016 #3 Share Posted March 28, 2016 (edited) Agree. Most of the Princess ships the bow is not set up for public access. Conversely, all HAL ships (not sure about Prisendam) are set up for public access. Edited March 28, 2016 by CruiserBruce
Pam in CA Posted March 28, 2016 #4 Share Posted March 28, 2016 Depends on the ship. The Coral and Island definitely have forward viewing areas. You get much better views from a few decks up than you do from the bow. FYI, the Prinsendam does not have a forward bow viewing area.

I remember sailing with HAL (Noordam) to Alaska and they opened the bow for us when we were in Glacier Bay. :) All the Princess ships that sail to Alaska have bow viewing areas. On the Star & Grand there is access to the forward area on deck 15 and the Captain may open access to the deck above the bridge. On the Island and Coral there is a forward viewing area on deck 15 and the Captain may have doors to the small viewing areas areas on decks 10 & 11 open for passengers. On the Crown and Ruby you are able to walk forward on deck 16. The Crown, Ruby, Grand & Star also have bow access on deck 8 where you can walk all the way to the forward point of the ship. There are also some very high up decks on the Star and Grand above the main pool area.
CruiserBruce Posted March 28, 2016 #6 Share Posted March 28, 2016 I think the issue here is "bow" vs "forward viewing". There is a difference.
SadieN Posted March 28, 2016 #7 Share Posted March 28, 2016 Do any of the ships have forward facing cabins? One HAL Alaska cruise we were on deck and the people in the cabin were none too happy that it was a public deck.
