siany_la Posted March 30, 2016 #1 Share Posted March 30, 2016 I have cruise multiple times with Princess, however am thrilled to be bringing 2 newbie cruisers with me on a 3 night cruise on board the Golden. After doing a few cruises, the necessities and tips seem second nature and I can't remember the advice I wish I knew as a first time cruiser! Would love any first time cruising tips, what not to forget to bring, and any 'in-the-know' advice about the Golden. Look forward to hearing from you all! Would love any first time cruising tips, what not to forget to bring, and any 'in-the-know' advice about the Golden. Look forward to hearing from you all! S x Not specific to the Golden ... but since they are newbie cruisers and you have cruised multiple times, be sure to sign them up for the referral rewards. They each get $25 and you also get $25 for referring each of them. That's $100 they are giving you. On another note, be sure not to miss or bring: -Pub lunch -International Café -Happy hour with Buy One Get One for $1 drinks twice daily (check the patter) -2 bottles of wine (one per pax, 750 ml) can be brought on without corkage if consumed in your cabin -Unlimited wine and champagne can be brought on and after the first two bottles, there is a $15 corkage applied to all other bottles -Drinks bought while in embarkation port can incur an additional tax -Casino / shops are only open while at sea -Buckets of beer give you an additional beer for no charge -Walls of staterooms are metal so strong magnets can be used to hang up the paperwork you need for the day / week -Specialty dining rooms (book when you board) do not require formal dress on any night -Within reason, they might be able to bring you food not listed on the breakfast room service card (tip accordingly) -Kiosks are setting up by passenger services to check your folio - new app is also available to check the daily schedule and you folio without using internet minutes There are so many more tips -- I am sure others will pitch in! Thrak Posted March 30, 2016 #3 Share Posted March 30, 2016 As to the room service breakfast... If you want 4 pieces of bacon do NOT put down bacon x 4 on the request as you will get 4 full servings of bacon and won't know what to do with all of it. Been there. Done that. Oops... Cruisin' Chick Posted March 31, 2016 #4 Share Posted March 31, 2016 Make sure they check out the Princess website, especially the cruise answer place (FAQs) and deck plans.

Thrak Posted March 31, 2016 #6 Share Posted March 31, 2016 Haha, that is hilarious! Is there ever too much of a good thing though?? [emoji3] Bacon is one of life's great joys but.. Yes, there actually can be too much bacon. Princess doesn't do bacon very well in the first place so a ton of it was too much.

kitman Posted April 17, 2017 #10 Share Posted April 17, 2017 if you like the bacon, look for the English bacon, its more like normal bacon in Australia
skynight Posted April 17, 2017 #11 Share Posted April 17, 2017 For a 3 night cruise, just have fun. Make sure you try the International Cafe. You may wish to purchase the All Inclusive Beverage Package. I think these prices are still valid, but they may have increased a dollar or two. Priced at AU$59 per person per day, the all-inclusive package covers drinks up to the value of AU$14 including cocktails, spirits, beers, wine by the glass, specialty coffees, soft drinks, shakes, juices and water bottles. Passengers who buy the deal also receive a 40 percent discount on bottles of wine under AU$100.
JF - retired RRT Posted April 17, 2017 #12 Share Posted April 17, 2017 Download the Ship Mate App to your smartphones &/or tablets. The app has deck plans that are better than the silly paper map that's handed out at check-in. The deck plans MUST be downloaded before your cruise. If they want to cruise again...buy the $100pp Future Cruise Deposit.

Should be in it's own food group:)
crochetcruise Posted April 17, 2017 #14 Share Posted April 17, 2017 Sailing from Sydney, Australia, I didn't see the Pub Lunch or the Happy Hour/s aboard. Definitely get the Soda and More Package if they drink Soda, or the Coffee Card-I don't drink coffee. Possibly the All-Inclusive-Beverage-Package might be relevant. Get your drinks early, I found some of the bars rather crowded and had quite a wait for a refill. Sunscreen, sunglasses and a warm jacket and hat, the weather can change quickly and feel different at sea. Warn them to be VERY careful around the pool area, splashes do occur and it can get very slippery-I didn't get too close for that reason, balance problems and I didn't want an unexpected crash landing in the pool and struggling to climb the ladder to get out, my days of easily climbing ladders are long gone! There can be quite a wait for the elevators, if you can use the stairs-I couldn't with my Rollator-it's probably quicker, free exercise and you work up an appetite for the next meal! :D Most importantly-ENJOY THEIR 1ST CRUISE! The next cruise for me-I've got to wait until October next year, just confirmed the dates thanks to a poster on CC and waiting to get to the TA and use my FCC. Oh make sure they know about purchasing a FCC on board, or booking another cruise on board. 3 days or longer gets some On Board Credit.
