KirkNC Posted April 5, 2016 #2 Share Posted April 5, 2016 The azipod had been assembled incorrectly? How can that happen? I bet there is an interesting conversation going on with the company that makes them right about now.
Stratheden Posted April 6, 2016 #3 Share Posted April 6, 2016 Something to do with circuit board in computer control. Have people from Finland onboard observing. Not A HAL problem - manufacturing problem.
KirkNC Posted April 6, 2016 #4 Share Posted April 6, 2016 I guess I am amazed it worked at all. Also calls into question the QC process by the manufacturer. I realize this is not HAL's fault.

c-legs Posted April 8, 2016 #6 Share Posted April 8, 2016 ''Azipod originally assembled incorrectly'' ? ??? Noordam has been launched Feb 2002....and it took this long, until late March 2016, to finally notice ???? Wow, it must be quite a propulsion unit which can still acheive its goals this long, without damage, while being incorrectly assembled......wow.... It is stunning that a statement like that would actually originate from the bridge officer(s) him/themselves.... ;)C
RuthC Posted April 9, 2016 #7 Share Posted April 9, 2016 Noordam has been launched Feb 2002.... 2006. But your point is valid.
Heartgrove Posted April 10, 2016 #8 Share Posted April 10, 2016 From previous posts, it wasn't mechanical but a computer control issue. There probably was a computer update recently that had issues.
Beejay4016 Posted April 12, 2016 #9 Share Posted April 12, 2016 And, hey, we ended up with two days in beautiful Napier, which is something that many of us appreciated - that place is gorgeous - and a nice little credit to be used for a future cruise. Got to take the Pollyanna viewpoint on issues such as this.

Got to take the Pollyanna viewpoint on issues such as this. Unfortunately, we missed two ports due to this malfunction. We missed Auckland and Bay of Islands. We were very disappointed and probably won't be back on HAL again...so giving us the credit for a future cruise doesn't work for us.

Well that is a risk of cruising and it happens on every line on occasion. Sorry you missed the ports but unless you have other reasons, I would reflect on whether that is the best decision. We have missed ports on HAL, Princess and Celebrity. Edited April 30, 2016 by KirkNC
esimon Posted April 30, 2016 #12 Share Posted April 30, 2016 Many many people expect - perfection- on a cruise -- No changes for any reason - safe or not - Every bite of food to 'their' perfection - etc etc Stuff happens --

Kennykat Posted May 1, 2016 #14 Share Posted May 1, 2016 Well that is a risk of cruising and it happens on every line on occasion. Sorry you missed the ports but unless you have other reasons, I would reflect on whether that is the best decision. We have missed ports on HAL, Princess and Celebrity. Totally understand that sometimes on a cruise you will miss ports. Was just saying we were disappointed as we flew a long way to see New Zealand. We wanted to try HAL as we are elite on other cruise lines and thought it would be fun to try a different cruise line. There were many things we enjoyed on HAL. However, we have other vacations lined up next year so won't be able to use the credit we were given on HAL for the missed ports.
