Did Sky Miss GSC AGAIN Today?

Hi, what is an "onboard postcard"? I have not heard this phrase before. Do you need to pay for an internet package to use it?

It's essentially a stand-alone kiosk where you can take 'selfies' and then e-mail them to yourself or a friend. I think you can post them to Facebook as well. It's free - and they're fantastic! The one we used on the Sky was (I think) on Deck 7 in the atrium area.

Edited to add: We made GSC on our Sky sailing in March both this year and last! Thank goodness! Was sorry to miss it on the Getaway in January, though.

What Sam said. I think they're only available on the Sky and they're very cool to send back home.

Teambanzai- I'm not exactly sure where they go, but the Sky has just been sort of slowly cruising around the sea between Nassau and Southern Florida today.

At least my husband reported in his postcard that he won $100! :D (I assume in the casino.)

Speaking of Getaway & GSC, ship is scheduled to anchor there & looks like it's a good day to go ashore, sea looks calm on webcam (might be a bit breezy & windy)

Breakway also has a kiosk in the photo gallery - with the instant photo e-postcard (don't recall it in 2014 but it was there, 2015 ... post to social media, etc.) - most folks don't realize it is there or just walk past by it.

Thank you everyone for the responses on the On-board Postcard. I am sorry to have hijacked the thread.

On the topic of GSC, is it bypassed often? We are scheduled for November 2016. Is that a time of year that I should be worried about weather?

Hurricane season ends on Nov 30. The cruise line won't sail into a storm and will divert on short notice.

It looks like it's almost back in Miami on the tracker map.

Just wondering if anyone knows for sure.....

Yes, I was on this trip and we missed GSC. Those who got up early and made it over to the island got an hour of play time before they called it. The waves were like 5 feet and the Tinder boats would have made people sick or something. They thought it was too dangerous. One of my mates made it over for his Jet Sky excursion.... Got all the way though the safety speech and then got the "WAIT!!! Excursion canceled!!!!" lol

Kinda a bummer, but to be honest I am okay with it. The trip was still awesome

Hi,

Can I assume that if you had booked an excursion, you would have all of your money credited back to your on-board account?

Does anyone know what would happen if you had booked a cabana and had used it for that first hour? Would you get all of your money back or just a portion?

If your excursion on GSC is cancelled, they do credit your payment back into your on-board account. I had a cabana booked in January when we missed the island (pre-paid and booked months before the cruise). The ~$400 was refunded to my account on-board that day.

Not sure about the partial day useage, but I would assume that you would be refunded all of your money as you did not get the advertised full-day useage.

There is one on Getaway.

There was one on the Getaway across from La Cucina outside Grammy Experience (now Fat Cats) back in August, but as of 3 weeks ago, it was gone. We looked all over for it with no luck. We finally asked our bartender at the Sunset Bar, and he told us it was gone. We loved that thing!

Yes, we were one of the 'lucky' ones who made it over to GSC for less than an hour. The tender over was quite rocky. We were on the upper level, and other than deep ups and downs, it was ok. But the people on the lower level were getting wet by the waves and swells.

We had our photos taken when we got off the tender and made our way over to the beach. A server took our drink order at the lounge chairs but I noticed 5 minutes after we got our drinks, the bar closed. I thought it was odd, but didn't think to much about it. Walked around a bit, but then noticed the beach was emptying FAST ! All of a sudden there were just a few of us left! I found a life guard and asked what was going on. Was told we were being evacuated. Well, we jumped into the water quick, cause we were NOT going to miss out on swimming in the beautiful water (which was totally calm on this side of the rocks). So we had a quick swim and the reluctantly made our way back to the tender. It was sad. Such a beautiful day for the beach, and we spent it trying to find a lounge chair on a pool deck and swimming in a pool with way too many people standing in it.

The other thing that was closed for most of our trip was the Outrigger Lounge. I was so disappointed when it was closed, cause i had heard about the nice quiet deck and lounge area. It finally opened on the last day, so we were able to at least see the deck and enjoy the lounge a little bit. It was really peaceful since most people didn't know it was open.

There was one of these on Getaway (although I see it has been reported as removed) and on Escape. But for both of these, you could just take a photo and send it. I didn't know you could add comments? Maybe the machine on Sky is different.
