More upgrades for the OPT.

Crochetcruise, that ramp is an escalator that you don't have to use to board. It leads to the taxi pick-up area at the top of the building.

 

The second picture is a close-up of the terminal entrance. You go through the glass doors, which are on the left of the picture, where someone will check your boarding docs, then up an escalator or lift, inside the building, to reach the check-in area. After checking in you then go up another escalator or lift to where you wait to go through passport control and security.

 

Your cousin probably won't be able to enter the terminal building but there should be someone inside that can help you get through the rest of the areas.

Newbie cruiser here, and I'm also Legally Blind and on a walking frame.

 

In the photo above, showing the entrance, there seems to be a steep ramp between the 2 supports at the far right of the picture. If I am right, does this go up to where I would need to go please? I will have my cousin with me until I need to go into a "secure access" area, so she'll help with sign reading.

 

I suspect it's the escalator you are seeing, all flat with escalators and lifts between levels

I cruised with RCI on Explorer of the Seas on 30 March accompanied by my parents. My mum is in her late 70's and used a wheelie walker on the ship due to a benign brain tumour which left her with balance problems after surgery.

 

Honestly, the service we received from staff after our arrival at tha OPT was like we were VIP's. The minute we walked through the terminal doors and they saw the wheelie walker, we were immediately directed to the elevators. At the next level we were directed away from the main queue and fast tracked down the side straight to a table and seating where we completed all the necessary paperwork, with the check in agent even helping with this. From there it was straight to passport control/security, no queuing or waiting at all. All up it probably took no longer than 15 minutes to embark and I couldn't compliment the staff more highly for this. Other family, who used the escalator and became separated from us, probably took about 45 minutes longer to get through the process.

 

Given how well we were treated, I can't imagine you having any problems when you embark. I am sure there will be staff there to assist you through the terminal as needed and fast track you onto the ship. I have to say the crew on the ship were also excellent, going out of their way to assist even when they hadn't been asked.

There is a lift on the right next to the glass entrance doors. Immediatly after the entrance there is an escalator taking you up to the mezzanine level.

 

In you case, probably best to take the lift.

 

THANK YOU! I most certainly will, nearly had a fall trying to get OFF an escalator in a supermarket over 2 levels in Adelaide-very scary! A staff member came hurrying to check I was all right, and personally took me round the corner to show me where the-then unmarked- lift was. Next visit, the lift was VERY prominently marked!

 

If I have any trouble, I will politely ask someone for assistance. I am also organising myself a badge identifying me as a Visually Impaired Person.

 

Oh, must write that down on my list of appointments to make, my cousin offered to take me out to the Eye Specialist, and while I'm seeing him, the local Royal Society for the Blind of South Australia office is in the same building, so I could give her the money for any shopping, and double-task!

We are first time cruisers and heading out on Carnival Spirit in June this year. Only my 9yo daughter and myself are cruising. We have had to complete online check in and at that time had to choose a boarding time. From what i have read, you can bag drop earlier (and thank you to the poster for the pictures of the terminal - helps me with my OCD organising :p) but if you turn up to check in outside your allotted check in time, you will be turned away and asked to come back during your alloted time. Can anyone confirm that this is the case? I suppose by having an alloted time they dont have everyone trying to check in at once and can stagger and contol the amount of people they have for each half hour slot.
