CroNich Posted April 19, 2016 #1 Share Posted April 19, 2016 Hi, this may be a silly question but my friend and I are looking at maybe doing a short Caribbean Cruise next year (we will both be 20). I understand in America the drinking age is 21, however does that remain intact for the whole cruise (even in international waters), also how does that work at different ports and stuff (particularly in the Caribbean). For all the mainstream cruise lines, cruises that originate in the US will have a 21 drinking age throughout the cruise. In ports, while ashore, the local laws apply. The drinking age will be 21 on the ship for the entire cruise. However, when on land, the drinking age is up to whatever country you are visiting. Note also that the minimum age to sail unaccompanied on Royal is 21. Edited April 19, 2016 by clarea

I believe Disney has the caveat that to book a stateroom unaccompanied under the age of 21, both passengers must be at least 18 AND one of the passengers must be active duty military OR it can be a married couple. On the ship it will remain as a drinking age of 21, but while in port (and off the ship), only the local laws will apply. But, as others have pointed out, you don't have a lot of options booking a sailing from the US, if you're under 21, unless you and your girlfriend wanted to get married first . . . . :D
