MUST eats

Recommended Posts

I just spent a week on the Mariner, and there was not one food item that I would consider a "must have". A few things were better than others, but overall the food ranged from good (Portofino's and Chops) to lousy (Windjammer).

Temper your expectations on the food or you will be highly disappointed.

Vidalia Onion Tart

Escargot

Key Lime Pie

Chilled soups....especially the strawberry!

Souffles

If you do Portofinos....the Tiramisu is a definite must! (We like Chops "food" better but go to Portofinos instead for the Tiramisu!)

I've read on these boards that if you like a specific food that is not provided in a particular restaurant that you can request it, and they will get it for you. For example, I've heard about people who have eaten in Chops but loved the Tiramisu from Portofinos. The waiters brought the Tiramisu from Portofinos to the diners in Chops. It sounds like the best of both worlds.

I plan on putting this to the test on my upcoming cruise. :p

I'm laughing at all of the mentions of key lime pie; on my honeymoon cruise, 13 YEARS AGO, that was my favorite!!! I still have yet to have a better key lime pie. I guess RCCL was smart enough to keep the recipe.

FYI if they have a great dessert at dinner one night, look for it at the afternoon buffet the next day...

One of my dad's favorite sayings is:

"There are those who eat to live and others who live to eat."

I, unfortunately, am of the latter. I definitely live to eat. This thread is making me realize this with a vengeance. :D

Definitely, the Grand Marnier Souffle

Flourless chocolate cake

French onion soup at Portofinos

and every thing else mentioned in the thread!!

I am soooo looking forward to the chilled strawberry soup

and tasty spring rolls.

My hub looooves their room service hamburgers (apparently they're made 'fresh').

And the room service fruit plate is always a good way to go for a light snack or late dessert. mmmmmm
