Patneeds2cruise Posted May 5, 2016 #1 Share Posted May 5, 2016 Where is a good place to stay in Long Beach for one night pre-cruise? The nice hotels seem rather pricey.
SadieN Posted May 5, 2016 #2 Share Posted May 5, 2016 (edited) Be extremely careful of cheap hotels in the LA area. Usually there's a good reason why they're cheap. Not any where I'd stay. The short list is very good... Maya, Hyatt, Renaissance, Queen Mary (know it's a 1930's build). Search and Look on other threads. Lots of info. October has a huge Halloween fair eat the Queen Mary. Putterdude Posted May 6, 2016 #3 Share Posted May 6, 2016 We have stayed at the Hyatt Regency in Long Beach and quite enjoyed it. You might find something a little less pricey in San Pedro or Torrance but the taxi fares soon add up.
Langley Cruisers Posted May 6, 2016 #4 Share Posted May 6, 2016 Agree with the PP's. Here is a post by Bruin_Steve who kindly laid out his "short list" - and the advice to heed is do not even think of staying elsewhere, seriously. ;) http://boards.cruisecritic.com/showpost.php?p=38551020&postcount=12 <--click for link, content below for easy reading: Here is my standard advice: There is a very limited area of Long Beach in which you want to stay...and, therefore, a limited number of hotels. The BEST places to stay are the Hyatt, Westin, Renaissance and Hyatt at the Pike …These put you right in the heart of the tourist area with very convenient walks to restaurants, shops and attractions and easy access to the free "Passport" shuttle...and those ARE the nicest hotels in town. Doesn't necessarily mean they are higher priced, though...and you can often get a real deal via Priceline... Slightly further away, but still in decent walking distance, are the Hilton, the Marriott Courtyard and the Best Western Long Beach Convention Center... Just across the bridge (on the same side of the channel as the Carnival Pier) are the Marriott Residence Inn Downtown and the Maya Doubletree...The Queen Mary is across the bridge as well...and right next to the Carnival Terminal...however, I am not a big fan of the Queen Mary--unless you are on there for nostalgia's sake...It's not exactly a first class hotel by today's standards--the rooms are small, condition questionable, etc. Getting to any of these hotels from LAX, you'd either have to take a taxi or a shuttle...Try Super Shuttle or Prime Time Shuttle...From hotel to pier, some of these hotels may have free shuttles, but policies change time to time, so I would check individually with the hotel... http://www.longbeach.hyatt.com/en/hotel/home.html http://www.starwoodhotels.com/westin...ropertyID=1003 http://www.marriott.com/hotels/trave...g-beach-hotel/ http://thepikelongbeach.hyatt.com/en/hotel/home.html http://www3.hilton.com/en/hotels/cal...HHF/index.html http://www.marriott.com/hotels/trave...each-downtown/ http://bestwesterncalifornia.com/index.html http://www.marriott.com/hotels/trave...each-downtown/ http://doubletree3.hilton.com/en/hot...YDT/index.html One word of warning: Do NOT go looking for bargains outside of this short list of hotels...Long Beach is a BIG city...there are lots of different areas, some better, some worse...some not so close to the port or the tourist areas...That bargain hotel MAY tell you it's near the Convention Center or near the port...but it may not be...it may be in an undesirable area or location. You want to have a pleasant stay--stick to this list. This area of Long Beach means you will have a large choice of restaurants nearby, you will have nice shops and picturesque scenery and places to walk and enjoy...You will be close to sites like the Aquarium and the Queen Mary if you want to have a little sightseeing...Long Beach runs a free shuttle service called the "Passport" which will take you all over the Downtown area: http://www.lbtransit.com/services/passport.aspx

vwrestler171 Posted May 6, 2016 #7 Share Posted May 6, 2016 I would recommend the Hotel Maya, there is a Carnival code (P41) that is usually good for a reduced rate. If the rate doesn't show up online, I've been able to call and talk to their reservation specialists and get the lower rate.

SadieN Posted May 10, 2016 #9 Share Posted May 10, 2016 Found other things in October. Could be residual from the Long Beach Marathon and the lead up to a Cargo convention. Sent from my iPhone using Forums mobile app
Patneeds2cruise Posted May 10, 2016 Author #10 Share Posted May 10, 2016 Got a deal on Priceline - Hilton Long Beach for $136 so I'm happy with that. Have never done Priceline before. Will definitely call to confirm with hotel.
burtie Posted May 10, 2016 #11 Share Posted May 10, 2016 Recently stayed at the Queen Mary on a Friday night. Room rate was about $140 and increased to $180 with all the taxes added. If you try to book directly with them, on Fri and Sat nights they have a 2 night minimum. I went thru Priceline and was able to book for just one night. We thought it was well worth the $ and spent about 5 hours just looking around the ship. Good Luck! Burtie
johno1234 Posted January 20, 2017 #12 Share Posted January 20, 2017 What about airbnb or vrbo? We have 2 adults and 3 kids, and it's even more difficult finding hotel accommodation than cruise cabins! Seriously, do these hotels not deal with families of more than 4? We can accommodate oursleves in two connecting extended balcony cabins for $500 a day including food etc - but for that you get 2 rooms in a flea-bag hotel in long beach? Am thinking having a couple of days each side of the cruise was a mistake.
riffatsea Posted January 20, 2017 #13 Share Posted January 20, 2017 The USA has fire laws that require hotels to only allow a certain number of people in their rooms. With a family of 5 you need to look at suite hotels like Homewood Suites by Hilton, Residence Inns by Marriott ,perhaps Comfort Inns and Suites (which might be lower priced) California cities along the coast are not inexpensive places to stay and that needs to be figured into your travel budget.
