Rare cruisequeen4ever Posted May 9, 2016 #77 Share Posted May 9, 2016 It applied. I used about twenty minutes of it. I was on this sailing as well but except for two drinks in Crooners and some shopping to absorb OBC, didn't do much. I've done five of these 1 nighters (4 on Princess, one on HAL) and I think the casino has been open going north each time and closed going south each time. Interesting about the casino; thank you for sharing. Sent from my iPhone using Forums mobile app

dfields1814 Posted May 10, 2016 #80 Share Posted May 10, 2016 (edited) I was on this cruise. It turned out to be one of the best ever if it was just one day. The only down part was the embarkation. I have been on some 20 plus cruises and this was the worst ever. Buenos Aires which was the worst can't compare to this one for worseness.. It took close to two hours from when we got to port at noon to our cabin. Most of the time was waiting in long lines. It really wasn't Princess' fault. It was the fault of the guy who thought embarking three ships with thousands of people from one terminal was a good idea. It took close to 45 minutes to go through security. Then another 30 minutes or so sitting in this room waiting for passport control. Then waiting in line for the passport control. Once we got to the Princess part it was OK we got our cruise card and and on to the ship for the pictures for the cruise card without too much delay. The upside was the passport control was done by the USA which meant we could skip this in Seattle. That was good. Unlike longer cruises we have taken in the fall and spring, this cruise had tons of young people. And they were there to party!!!! I have never seen a Princess ship with so much energy. I wish I could save some of that energy for future cruises. Skywalkers which is usually empty on cruises was packed. You could not get on the dance floor even if you wanted to which I didn't. For the first time we had traditional dining. We sat with two very nice couples. One of men is an Alaskan fisherman who fishes way up close to the Arctic. He was really interesting, not to mention he shared his bottle of French wine with us!!! The lunch at the Horizon Court was decent. I am not a huge fan of the Court. But the ribs were very good.Quite frankly I don't remember much about the prime rib at dinner because I was too busy talking with the Alaskan fisherman. We had a great sail away party. The big downer was that we were having such a great time we did not get to our cabin until after midnight. We had to get up very early to disembark. The disembarking was very easy and quick. So maybe it was worth waiting all that time for passport control in Vancouver. Edited May 10, 2016 by dfields1814

kluv2cruz Posted May 10, 2016 #82 Share Posted May 10, 2016 (edited) yeah Parmesan Basket is back today - hmmm maybe they had limited Parmesan on the four night prior. Just so happy it is not gone permanently. They told me it wasn't available on the one nighter. That's the first time I've been told that. It was a fabulous cruise. lovey1103 Posted May 10, 2016 #87 Share Posted May 10, 2016 My sister and I were on this cruise and found the lack of staff engagement, customer service and knowledge regarding disembarkation discouraging. We did not go on this cruise with high expectations, however we did not expect that our experience would be so dismal. The food in the Horizan Court was awful with nothing but cheap offerings (how many ways can you stretch pasta)? to downright disgusting. No more one nighters for us, in fact my sis who is a Celebrity loyalist will not cruise Princess again. Just my opinion. No need to reply.

I can’t understand for the life of me why people go the buffet. We take all of our meals in the MDR, the only time we go to the buffet is for a quick snack or we just hit the international café. I’ve thought about going on a overnight one day cruise but it seems like a huge hassle get on and you’re getting off less than 24 hours later. I too much prefer the dining room for breakfast and lunch. We were on the four night voyage just prior to this one. You couldn't even set foot in the dining room. I remember going for lunch and though I would wait till just after 1 because it was open till 1:30 and there was a long queue at noon. At 1:05 on the two sea days the queue was wrapped all the way to the Purser's Desk! I have never seen it so bad. Breakfast was similar. They were telling the crowds that they would not be sat in the dining room that they had to go to the Horizon Court. Food there was okay, not great, and certainly worse than most other Princess ships.\ Something tells me it has more to do with the Ruby than the passengers and itinerary. I did find the food at the IC to be very good though.

wifeofbedo Posted May 14, 2016 #96 Share Posted May 14, 2016 Very nice review! We too were on this cruise, but we were told when we boarded at noon: 1. that our rooms were not ready till 1:00, the attendant in the elevator would only take us to the 15th floor so we couldn't check to make sure... 2. that the MDR was not open for lunch. We enjoyed our cruise very much, however on this particular sailing we encountered more drunk party goers than usual. This does not usually bother us - keeps the elevator rides interesting.. but showing up to muster drill, drinks in hand while making snarky comments to the cruise staff really disappointed us. Yes, they had blue cards. Oh well. Stuff we were pleasantly surprised to find: - the coffee in the buffet,:D this time it was better than the horrible taste I remember. Did they change the brew in the last year and a half? - the beds were heavenly! Comfy beds made it hard to get up..
