Yabba dabba doom? Fuggedaboutit My mom lives on the Martin/PB Cty line, I told her on Monday to get her head the heck out of the sand...

Did you know there is a concrete shortage in the US? My parents have been waiting for their new roof since finally settling with the insurance company in April! Now my parents are happy the tiles for their new roof are still not available

God Bless all you Floridians...

that is why our DD and SIL bought a ready built house in Winermere, near Orlando. They had planned on building but watched too many friends having to move into rentals while their new houses were being finished. Not just cement but all kinds of supplies seem to be in short supply after last years storms. NMNita

the Gulf Coast get the hurricanes. That is the way God planned it & if you don't like it, MOVE! I cannot picture the insurance costs. Up here we don't want any added to ours. W Coast with floods, eathquakes & wildfires & all they need is a tsunami! A tornado hits but not NE Ohio, we get a tremor from a quake in Lake Erie but feels like a truck driving down the road. So move here, we are lucky...........
New Mexico gets no natural disasters either and I know what you are saying. We used to live in So Calif (born and raised) we would watch the fires, floods and earthquakes wipe out the hilly areas particularly and people would just rebuild. I would have moved, but remember that sometimes is easier said than done. As for those living in the Gulf area and Florida, these storms are not a yearly thing or at least not like they have been the past few years. I do not think everyone should just pack up and move. That is rediculous. NMNita

but not when the same folks cry on TV yearly when they live in a hurricane zone & pay thru the nose to live there with insurance for hurricane & flood coverage. If they didn't buy it, then it is their loss. That is reality! Millions came to them, but where did it go when we hear on 20/20 that folks that never saw any?

I surely do not want to pay for them, I have my home covered totally. I do not expect you to rebuild me home either. So it is for the wealthy to live there. Beautiful Biloxi, which I live the visits there, the people are so warm & now they werw wiped out by the Biloxi tsumnami, which a wave that big has never been seen by any of the elder in all those years. Ole Miss & the beautiful hisotric plantations are just piles of broken wood. Breaks my heart. But their Mayor took care of them with a $20 mil Loyds of London insurance policy that the City bought, to rebuild the casinos on land, no longer boats by law, and the homes away from the shore. Even in Hawaii on the Big Island ,the capital Hilo moved the city way back after that tsunami that killed thousands.

MACOP, Not only are you not compassionate, but then you come here and try to justify your posts?

Unbelievable.

How wonderful for you that you're house is totally covered. I hope you never have to see just see what your insurance company says when an "act of God" destroys it.

Let's just hope the "poor dears" living on "SS" who have no money for the "thru the nose" insurance receive the assistance they need.

I am with the others..........God Forbid!

Now wouldn't that be interesting. ONLY the wealthy, huh? So who will live and work in the grocery stores, shops, and factories where you shop, who will deliver your mail, or work in your bank? Who will work in the hospitals, or run the ambulances? Who will protect you from crime? And who would build you a home in the first place? Give me a break, MACOP! :(

I pay in excess of $10,000 per annum for home/car insurance. That includes a separate policy for hurricane and a separate one for flood. We have had the same agency for the past 35 years. My claim from Charley was over $130,000 in damages. You do the math. Did I cost you a d@*n thing?

When one has nothing good to say, one should say nothing at all. The best way to keep your ground is to avoid slinging dirt. Karma baby, Karma.

I couldn;t agree with you more. This thread has turned into something ugly, which was not the way it was intended. I cannot believe that macop is so insensitive to others. I didn;t think anyone on this thread was complaining.

You are absolutely correct. No matter if it's weather, health, death, or whatever is important enough for someone to post and share, we should ALL be sympathetic and a good listener. Not one of us is better than the next, and each and every one of us will need someone, sometime. What is important to one person may not be to another, but I sure hope I will be able to offer a shoulder or an ear to anyone who needs one!!!

Fires, floods, mud slides, and earthquakes. Yes, these are some of the things we live with in California. When people question why/how we live here with all these possible disasters just waiting to happen we shrug our shoulders and say "well, we probably aren't going to have much warning, what will be will be."
I can deal with all of these things. I have been living here for 35 years, it really isn't too difficult.

My hat is off, my heart goes out, and all of my digits are crossed for any and all folks living with the threat of yet another storm.

Before I took a cruise, before I became a Cruise Critic member a hurricane truly meant very little to me, now I know better.

I doubt I could deal with what all of you have to do and think about.

Please know, there is one more household here in California sending positive thoughts Florida's way, stay safe.

Thank you, Chuck for putting this thread back on the original course. I was waiting to post with anger and venom, but it doesn't seem to affect her.

To all who posted in response to her, thank you.

To all in the storm's path- stay safe, and we'll keep positvie thoughts going your way.

No, I can't leave it alone. FOR ANYONE TO POST THOSE POSTS WHO WAS ALLEDGEDLY A GOVERNMENT EMPLOYEE RESPONSIBLE FOR THE SAFELY AND CARE OF THE PUBLIC IS ATTROCIOUS.

Here's a string of words. Anyone is welcome to put them together in what ever order they care to;

rock, Crawl, under, came, back, the, from, where, you

My apologies to the hosts in advance. I'll await your warning about my posts.:(

Andrew, I knew that I loved you. :) Your words made me smile big time. Trust me, awaiting a hurricane is NOT our idea of how to spend our retirement. Our area had not been hit in 40 years and now we are perhaps awaiting another. As pet owners we had to make reservations early. So now we will be away for up to five days.
Oh dear, how will I get ready for my cruise with my mom on October 30?
One day I do hope to cruise with YOU!
