Getaway Free Drinks Tip!

Recommended Posts

We had the UBP on our recent Getaway trip (I think we will have trouble sailing without it now! LOL :) ) -but I noticed an opportunity for free drinks on embakation day I figured I'd share for anyone who does not have the unlimited beverages. The casino bar across from Shaghai offers unlimited free drinks of rum punch, wine and beer as soon as the sailaway begins. We happened to be walking through when I was asked by servers if I'd like a complimentary drink! I had already one in my hand but I asked if this was a special occasion. I was told that the casino bar offered complimentary alcoholic drinks during the sailaway party (first 45 min). There was hardly anyone around and they were not busy whatsoever. Just thought I'd give a heads up for future Getaway cruisers- and perhaps all the NCL ship do this??!! :)

This is normal in the casinos. A few years ago on a smaller ship this party was held in a smaller lounge area close to the casino and said 'invited guests only'. They still 'invite' those of us who came on a Casinos at Sea cruise, but they certainly don't turn you away or ask if you are a CAS member. They would like you to hang out there when gaming opens soon after that (like we do:rolleyes:)

It depends on the ship. There is always a hosted casino party where all of the casino guests are invited (Casino at Seas guests and Caesars Entertainment guests using cruise certificates) . Sometimes it is in the open casino area, sometimes it is in a private bar (mostly on smaller ships). We have seen it done both ways this year.

This is technically a private party. They usually will have out a sign that says private function. The bar staff working it probably doesn't care, but just for the record it is a Casinos at Sea event for VIP guests.

But I loved the movie wedding crashers just as much as the next guy.....so I'm not judging.

When you say "VIP", do you mean VIP point level, as in Lucky/Hot/Golden/VIP? Or would that include all those who booked through CAS?

Hmmm- we didn't actually have any drinks but there was def not a private party sign up and the servers told us anyone could have free drinks...

If you booked through CAS you should find an envelope in your cabin with information from the casino.

We have been on 9 cruises in the last two years and only on the Jewel did we see a 'private party' sign. On the Escape, Getaway and Dawn it appeared that anyone who walked through the casino could share in the rum punch. With the UBP, I don't think they have the crowds they once did for the 'free drink' events.
