Give me liberty or give me...a review of her!

Recommended Posts

Our suite attendant Daryl was a rock star. Although he told us he liked to jump up and down on the bed, we saw no evidence of this so it can't be proved. :D He wins the award for best towel animal ever - the thing was sitting on the couch nekkid one night. We aren't sure what he was but he stole my sunglasses so I slapped him upside the head for the impertinence. Mr Wolf did the wash and fold bag (one of those D+ perks we always use) and forgot to put our name or suite number on the slip. Ladies - seriously what ARE these guys good for???? Am I right? Daryl spent extra time down there hunting for the right bag. Good man. He earned his extra $$!

I was in JS 1540 a few weeks ago, and Daryl was awesome! He took my wife's sunglasses and made a towel dachshund, which really impressed my wife because we have a doxie at home.

Oh, and... SUPERSTAR!!! schwing... schwing... schwing...

That would be lovely Pompey - I just noticed you are from Dallas. Do you visit Winstar or Choctaw? Be funny if we have seen each other at one of them.

Indeed we do, was at Choctaw last weekend, stayed in the old tower.

Used to do Winstar, it is easier for me to just write them a check with what I Am going to spend before entering.

You know how well they payout up there, and the tax on table bets, is killer;)

Before we knew about OK casinos we used t drive the 3-1/2hrs to Shreveport

Had some success at what was Hollywood (El Darado).

I am sure our paths have crossed or we have laced the palms of the same dealers:D

Oh yea, my favorite Villain made a fly by. Glad you are enjoying. I know I'm no John Galt. Who IS John Galt by the way? And any lover of reviews knows that SailorJack is the MASTER.

Haha. Nicely done. You're giving JohnGaltny a run for his money with this great review. And yes SailorJack is the master along with JohnGaltny, maureencruiser and TheDougOut.

My DH and I will be on Lady Liberty in late September (25th) for our anniversary. We talk about cruising so much that one of his buddies is joining us this time. I am loving your review. We are also from the DFW area (Little Elm) and will be driving down. Our tradition is to drive down on Friday and hang out a couple of days prior. We like to stay at Hilton Galveston Island and eat at Landry's on the first night. I have been thinkin about a seafood place for Saturday. We might just try your recommendation. Do you know if they take reservations? :-)

Hi! I was hoping you would come in here with a review and here it is. You have a delightful writing style and I look forward to more of the same.

Was Derek as funny (wacky!) and engaging as he always was? Was the pub packed as on previous Derek cruises? I still remember him from the Rhapsody in the Schooner Bar.

Other perks – I missed having the suite sundeck in the tiered level flanking the pool bar. On top of the sky bar was too exposed and too far away from the action.

I love your review! Thank you very much :)

We've always had the suite sundecks between the Pool Bar and the Sky Bar, so this will be new for us... My question is, with the location so far away, do the bar servers make it up there frequently?

Sorry to be a bit MIA. At home dealing with some hail repair issues. Blech.

Pompey - agree on your assessment. That's why we switched to Choctaw. :)

cricketts - it's just an open deck and I doubt servers make it there often. But you just go down the stairs and around the corner and there's the Sky Bar. It was too hot for us but I would bet October-March sailings, it would be nicer.

Gaidos doesn't take reservations unless it is a really large group.

happykids - It does not include food or drink. We had 2 large Mudslides, a beer bucket, 2 additional beers, conch fritters and a pizza and our bill was about $220 including tip. The $100 cabana sounds high until you do the math - loungers are $6 each, plus umbrellas on top of that plus there is an entry fee UNLESS you have a cabana. We saw a family of 5 turn down a cabana but then they ended up paying about $65 for chairs and umbrellas. And I don't even remember what the entry fee is. Cayman is relatively expensive but didn't bother us at all - we considered a great day and value for Cayman.

bonnie - Oh yes Derek's show is as wild as ever. He would pack it in for a bit but it seemed since there were more families on this sailing, that it emptied out pretty early. He started around 9:30 most nights and I would say by 11:45, it was getting quiet.

Loving your review, especially your casino comments as we too seem to find ourselves becoming very familiar with that spot during our cruises! Last September on our LOS cruise to Bermuda we found ourselves there on night one. After sail away drinks, wine paring dinner at Vintages, we decided to have a couple of Grey Goose vodkas while playing 3 card poker! A novel idea...vodka in a water glass!! Let's just say that the morning of day 2 came very early and I had no idea what happened to the $600 that was in my wallet the night before! Congrats on your win too! As both my wife and I are Caesar's Diamond members, just wish there was some exchange program with Club Royale. We're back on the LOS for a 2 week back to back in October so we will have to stretch out our casino funds and watch the drinking!

Sailing soon on Liberty and have questions about boarding. My husband and I was Diamond and in a JS. Last time we got to board with suites. My mother-in-law, who has mobility issues, and our son will be going with us. She is gold and he is platinum. Can they board with us? We will have connecting rooms. Last time son and his brother were allowed to board with us, but not allowed to on the Allure.

Really enjoyed your review! We will be on LOTS April of 2017. We've done Mariner & Navigator out of Galveston before, but this will be our first time on Liberty. We will be driving to Dallas on Friday night & then head the rest of the way to Galveston on Saturday morning because one of us can't take off work on that Friday.

A couple of questions.

When you are talking about suite perks like priority boarding line & eating in Chops, do those include JS? 2 of us are in a JS & 2 of us are in a Superior Balcony. Will they allow them to enter through the suite priority line & board with us?

And also I saw that you mentioned Olympia Grill. Is this the restaurant that is located right next to the cruise terminals? I have heard really good things about this place & am thinking of trying it. Do you know if they take reservations?

Thank you for more restaurant choices.

First cruise on Royal, do you have to sign up for anything in the Casino or is it just automatic based on your play?

Patiently waiting for more...

I had to get cash -- I took my cash to the table and they switched it for chips. Then I took my chips to the window and exchanged them back for cash when I was done.

I don't know how slots work.

SUITE BOARDING - JS do get priority boarding BUT they do not get access to Chops for embarkation lunch or breakfast. THAT is for GS or above - basically gold cards. JS will have silver cards. They should let all of your party board together as long as someone is in a suite.

Yes Olympia Grill is in the same building as Harbour House. It is good but a bit pricey.

JaniceB - Club Royale is indeed based on your play. I believe tables are $25 average bet and you have to hit around 3000 points for slot play. If you plan on gambling steadily and "heavily", my suggestion is to introduce yourself to the casino host and ask for him to keep an eye on your play - that you would like to get rated. Can't hurt.

ACTIVITIES

Our usual activities consist of me reading while Mr Wolf works on computer during the mornings. Normally I go to the Solarium but the outside SL area was so nice, often I was there. Lots of chair hogging in Solarium but I could usually nab a spot before 9 am. But the average cruiser can find lots to do! The sports court was busy, flowrider was in top form and the two slides never seemed crazy busy. Tidal Wave finally opened up on Day 6 or 7, not sure which. It looked fun and will be on our list for next time. We played the new mini golf – it’s cute, wasn’t at all crowded when we went on Day 6 and I only had to cheat once. Mens Belly Flop and World’s Sexiest Man are alive and well. We heard this Quest was outstanding so sorry we missed it this time.

GENERAL OBSERVATIONS

R Bar seemed empty every time we went by. I admit though that we weren’t in the area pre and post dinner when I think it would be most popular. I tried to see Schooner Bar entertainment but of course, the one night I wanted to peek in was his night off. It seemed to finish unusually early – several nights I walked through 12-12:30 and it was EMPTY. I think this was an early nightlife cruise week due to so many families with young kids. As mentioned, the one time we popped into the disco we felt like creepy oldsters so we left. I would imagine the college kids and millennials congregated there. Never hit Star Lounge other than the Top Tier event. They had Movies under the Stars most nights – and good choices. Star Wars, Spectre. No idea how crowded it got. The pools were really packed on sea days – which made sense since it was broiling out.

Crew seemed outstanding. Never a rude one, most very friendly. Ship appeared clean and they were good about constant upkeep.

We did Next Cruise just to get the deal but now have to figure out the exact date to go. We try to go 1-2 times per year but the fall is looking iffy so may have to wait for spring. Boo hiss.

Any Liberty questions – fire away. I will do my best to answer.
