Leaving on Sat, packing and some last minute questions!!

Ok, so since I am soo excited that my daughter and I leave Sat morning for the Gem out of NY, I am packing and my mind is going in a million directions!

Do I need to pack beach towels?? I would really like to save the room in my suitcase if I don't need them.

Can I still get a hole punched in my room card?? If so, where would I get that done??

We are in a SC, do I have enough outlets, or do I need a power strip??

How much cash do you think I will need?? I have the UBP and we are only doing Disney as an excursion. Might get off the ship in Nassau, but that is a toss up.. I have pre paid gratuities

It's been almost 10 yrs since I last cruised.. I thought I had this under control.. but I guess not!!

Thanks!

D

The cruise ship provides beach towels, you check them out on the way off the ship, and return them on your way back in. Not sure about the hole punch in room card... not sure you need that, but anyway, maybe someone else has some insight. Take a powerstrip if you have 3-4 things that need to be plugged in all the time. It won't take much room. Not sure about how much cash you want to take, I always have $400 or so with me and lots of smaller bills. Figure if you eat somewhere off the ship it will be $20 a person plus drinks if you get some. I hope this helps.

You do not need beach towels. They should be in your cabin. If not, ask cabin steward. Pool towels are available at the pool.

Ask guest services to punch your card.

How many things at a time do you need to charge? That'll determine if you need power strip.

Cash varies from person to person. Is taxi or shuttle payment involved? Tips for porters? Tips for cabin service? Extra tips for cabin steward?? Souvenirs in Nassau?

Edited to add: we were all typing at same time so hadn't seen answers from others

Power strips don't take up a lot of room so just pack one as I don't know how many things your plugging in

Ditto, on extension - you might just need a short extension cord, I always carry one of these 6" short 3-prong HD (18 amps rated) ones as pictured below (this new one that I just picked up recently has a 2nd. outlet at the power plug, making it very easy for extra charger.

If you don't have these 220 volts outlet adapter (with the round plug, bring 2 of them along) as that will give you 2 extra outlets for charging items like iPads, iPhones & Nexus/Android devices, etc. as almost all of them are dual voltage, auto-sensing 110v-220v compatible, just check the labels/info on the charger. There is always one, if not two 220 volt outlet for use in the stateroom (typically, the coffee machine/maker provided run on 220v - easily unplug and use it ... as long as you bring along the inexpensive adapter ... black one with slim & round plug on the upper right corner)

In practice, this is how my typical setup looked like (recently on the Breakaway - using two 110v and two 220v outlets) ... and I had the extra short 6" extension cord (without surge protection, as the "watchdog patrol" will give a long lecture about fire safety on using one. However, I travel worldwide and always carry my Belkin USB power tap for protecting electronics - stay in the gadget pouch while at sea.)

P.S. If you are driving to NY & doing the rooftop parking, NYCruise dot com as facility operations has the discount coupon, just $30 daily instead of $40 for GEM parking ... print it out for use.

Happy cruising & safe travel.

No. you get towels in your room. ask your steward or butler if you need more

guest services will punch your cards

always carry a non-surge proteced power strip

Bring a few hundred for spending money.

Have a great cruise! Don't let it be another 10 years to your next one.

If you haven't been to Disney lately- no "selfie sticks" allowed in parks. its been this way for a year or so. We saw several confiscated every day during our trip 10 days ago.

Have a great time!

Lol I have never owned a selfie stick.. and don't plan on it!!
