Food Allergies

My Mom is coming with us on our December sailing but she has some food allergies that can make dining a little bit challenging. She normally finds that keeping a vegan diet works out fine, but in looking at the sample menus from the MDR, we don't see any vegan choices.

Are there any suggestions for how to approach the MDR issue? She will let Celebrity Disability Services know about her allergies, but are there other steps she could or should take?

Special Dietary Needs

Celebrity Cruises is happy to accommodate many different kinds of dietary needs in our Main Restaurant to enhance your cruise vacation. Once you have booked your cruise, send your special dietary request to special_needs@celebrity.com or call 1-866-592-7225.

Vegetarian Dining

We offer a separate 7-day Vegetarian Menu, in addition to vegetarian dishes on the standard Main Restaurant menu which are designated by a leaf icon.

Kosher Dining

We offer a selection of complimentary pre-packaged kosher meals which are Glatt Kosher certified and made under the strict supervision of the O.U. and USDA. If you wish to partake of our kosher meals, we ask that you notify us 45 days in advance of your departure date for sailings from the U.S. (including Alaska, Hawaii and Puerto Rico) and 80 days for all other sailings. Kosher meals are available on all ships except Celebrity Xpedition®. See the menu for more details.

No-Sugar-Added Desserts

To accommodate guests with sensitivity to sugar, we offer a selection of delicious, mouth-watering desserts with no added sugar. Available in all our restaurants. Just look for the flower symbol on the menu.

Food Allergies

Allergic to nuts, shellfish, eggs or something else? Our entire team is extensively trained to handle these special needs. Just speak with your Maître d' on board and he or she will ensure your requirements are met. In the Oceanview Café, speak with the Manager who can answer any of your questions about ingredients in the dishes.

Other Dietary Needs

Lactose-intolerant? Need baby food? Or gluten-free dishes? Just ask and we'll do our best to provide you with delicious alternatives. These, and other diets such as low-fat, low-sodium, and low-cholesterol, have been created in consultation with dietary specialists; selections offered are for lunch and dinner for the Main Restaurant only.

Please note, not all dietary requests can be met. In the event that Celebrity cannot accommodate a particular dietary need or food request of yours, you will be contacted so that alternative arrangements can be made.

Guests with special dietary needs should confirm the arrangements with the Maître d' on the day of boarding. Any special dietary and food requests can be accommodated in the Main Restaurant only. See the menu for more details.

Distilled water is provided for guests with disabilities at no charge. This request must be submitted in writing to the Access Department by email or via fax to 954-628-9622, no later than two weeks prior to sailing.

Regular Soy Milk is readily available onboard. For those departures that are non-U.S., specific brands are sometimes difficult to come by and the local epicure will be substituted.

As everyone else says, you can absolutely either get in touch with Celebrity beforehand or find the maitre d' as soon as you board. Whichever route you take, they will be sure to find your mom lots of delicious food that she would love. I've cruised before with a family member that has celiac and another who is vegan. Every night in the dining room they quietly offered them a few choices before taking everyone else's order. Not only that, but when our waiter was in the dining room for breakfast and saw either one of them, he promptly came over with recommendations. Also, the last cruise we were on, I saw a staff member walking a woman through the buffet pointing out what items she could have. I definitely wouldn't hesitate to cruise Celebrity with the great care they give for special food limitations.

yes, let them know before hand but also quietly let your waiter and his assistant know about your issues. DW has her share of food allergies and our waiters have always been quick to make sure she gets what works for her. If you have select dining, just mention it each night as you are seated. They are use to food issues and happy to help.

We can accommodate most special dietary requirements in our main dining room where there is a greater degree of control over the production and service of special meals. Unfortunately, due to the limitations of the Specialty Restaurants' galleys, we cannot customize the offerings in these locations.

For special meal requests, please contact our Access Department at (866) 592-7225 or special_needs@rccl.com.

Interesting reply from Celebrity. I am allergic to shellfish, capsicums, related spices and pepper. They were informed at the time of booking by my TA and I filled in the special needs form and returned it by email. No response from them. Celebrity were happy to take my money and booking for Aqua and Blu dining with no mention that non MDR venues may not be able to cater. So a little worried as we sail on 17th July.

Thank you everyone for all your replies. Mom has dairy and egg allergies and the sample vegetarian menus we pulled, all the entrees and most of the appetizers have cheese so won't work for her. I am forwarding her this thread and hopefully she will get in touch with Celebrity for help with vegan meals.

Blu is not considered a specialty restaurant (nor for that matter is Luminae). Blu is the dining room for Aqua, just as Luminae is for Suites, and the differently-named Main Dining Rooms are for all ther guests.

Specialty restaurants are the fee restaurants like Murano, Tuscan Grille, The Porch, etc.

Have no fear about Blu and its ability to cater to your allergies.

Thank you for the reassurance. It's really difficult eating out as a lot of food has hidden spice ingredients as do pre prepared foods. I have to read the labels carefully. Even certain chocolates (Hotel Chocolate for example if you are in the UK) can have chilli in which is only listed in the ingredients. Shellfish allergy is understood, capsicum not so much you are thought to be faddy about food.

We had a great experience on Celebrity with Celiac + peanut/tree nut allergy. I wouldn't hesitate to cruise with them again. They were so accommodating for my son. The first night the waiter didn't seem to take me seriously, and I could feel myself getting super stressed out....he kind of smiled and nodded when I told him about the allergies. Finally we got his supervisor over, and his supervisor understood the seriousness of the allergies. His supervisor made sure we were extremely spoiled and taken care of. My son got to try lots of food he'd never tried before thanks to them.
