bremenkat Posted July 9, 2016 #26 Share Posted July 9, 2016 Im confused..If Im not ordering it at My Celeb how do I know its available on my Eclipse cruise Also it shows the price in Sterling.. How do I know it wont just be converted to the equiv Dollars at the current rate on sale day They sell it in blocks of 25 dollars. So the sterling amount you pay takes the exchange rate into consideration already. You can order it through your My Celebrity page. When you order it they will ask for your reservation number so you will know it is available for your cruise.
ighten Posted July 9, 2016 #27 Share Posted July 9, 2016 (edited) Thanks.. So can I order multiple orders of 9 .. jollyjoyce Posted July 9, 2016 #28 Share Posted July 9, 2016 I've ordered some, let's see if it goes through. Is there any way to see what OBC you have ? I think I've been through every screen and link under manage reservation, but no where can I see what I have No, they don't show it as its classed as an onboard gift...so I was told a few weeks ago when I rang them about buying some OBC. If someone bought it as a gift they would want it kept as a surprise......it would certainly be a surprise if someone else bought me some!!! LOL. I believe they put something in the cabin to tell you how much you have.
ighten Posted July 9, 2016 #29 Share Posted July 9, 2016 (edited) Ok ordered..Have to agree with Chalco though its a bit weird they dont actually send you a receipt of the amount - just a general email saying you ordered something  One last question as its first time on X. Does it work as normal and its just credit added to your room key rather than a silly book of vouchers Edited July 9, 2016 by ighten
excitedofharpenden Posted July 9, 2016 Author #30 Share Posted July 9, 2016 One last question as its first time on X. Does it work as normal and its just credit added to your room key rather than a silly book of vouchers It will be on your room key, no vouchers. There will be a note in your room when you arrive or shortly after (assuming you've requested delivery on the first day) together with any note attached to the gifted obc. As it was from myself I have two notes. "Don't go near the casino" and "Don't spend it all at once":) Phil
kevinyork Posted July 9, 2016 #31 Share Posted July 9, 2016 Ok ordered..Have to agree with Chalco though its a bit weird they dont actually send you a receipt of the amount - just a general email saying you ordered something  One last question as its first time on X. Does it work as normal and its just credit added to your room key rather than a silly book of vouchers You do get an email from X a few days after purchase confirming the gift purchase. The on board credit won't show up on the onboard account for around 48 hrs after boarding but as said above there will be gift cards in your cabin confirming the gift that has been purchased. I just had a thought. If you buy too much onboard credit and at the end allow it to be credited back to your card, it may be that X will have adjusted their exchange rates downwards so in reverse that would mean a better reverse exchange rate wouldn't it? i.e. Current exchange rate to buy the on board credit is 1.44. If X exchange rates drop to match current market rates ( or the rates when we sail in Sep) that would mean that $100 OBC that would have been exchanged back to the card used at 1.44 (£69.44) would become £76.92 if X dropped to using current market exchange rates........that's enough now, my brain is hurting. karpela Posted July 9, 2016 #32 Share Posted July 9, 2016 I've just bought 2 lots of 9 X $25, totalling $450. We do this every cruise, especially if we are spending a few days in the US afterwards. We always set up a cash account, then go to guest services on our last day and whatever we haven't spent on board, we take in cash as some spending money for after our cruise. At this exchange rate it's a no brainer at the moment. :)
cclarke12 Posted July 9, 2016 #33 Share Posted July 9, 2016 Ok, so I booked cruise through a US TA but I bought the OBC gift through the UK site and was given a sterling price and completed the transaction. I've had a confirmation of the gift purchase saying the price is $450 (I purchased 19 X $25). I would have expected the receipt to be billed in £. I've emailed to check what currency I've been charged in, as if it's $ I'd like a refund as no benefit to me doing. Can anyone who has booked their cruise in the UK and then bought OBC confirm what the billing looked like on their receipt?

I'll request a refund then as I authorised a sterling transaction and wouldn't haven proceeded if it was $.
stuartgrn Posted July 9, 2016 #36 Share Posted July 9, 2016 I've tried this this afternoon using the link. I am able to add the OBC to the cart but when I input the correct details for reservation number, name, ship & date it comes back saying reservation number not found. I have double checked that I am using the correct reservation number - the same one showing on the MyCelebrity cruise page. I have also tried using different internet browsers but no luck. Any ideas??
vino123 Posted July 9, 2016 #37 Share Posted July 9, 2016 (edited) Ok I bought some of the obc for £17.30 per item, bought $100 worth over the phone last week got confirmation then bought a bit more online also got another confirmation email. My concern is that nowhere on the website or in the confirmation emails does it say that each gift is $25. I'm worried that when we get on-board it might be the $ equivalent of whatever £17.30 is at that time. Can anyone put my mind at rest!? Edited July 9, 2016 by vino123

Any ideas?? I would ring them to buy the credit. The online orders are processed in Miami and in strict order of the date of the cruise. At least calling them means you can ask any necessary questions. I ordered some and one week later no email. I rang them and ordered by phone. I then cancelled the original online order by mailing them. Sent from my iPhone using Forums mobile app

Like you I booked my cruise through a US agent and then bought additional credit on the UK site on 24th June. My credit card statement once I convert it back to USD works out that I have been charged £18.16 per $25 credit. This was probably the exchange rate at that time with £1 = $1.376. I have another cruise booked for next April but that is through my UK agent, I will probably buy additional for that as well to take advantage of the $1.44 conversion rate that £17.30 gives me. Tom Baker Posted July 9, 2016 #40 Share Posted July 9, 2016 I'm assuming that Celebrity will credit the OBC back to your card in $. (you can request this when you register your credit card) I've purchased $1k and if I didn't spend any of it they would credit $1k back to the card at $1.30 (current Mastercard rate) which would leave me approx £80 up on the deal. Seems impolite not to to purchase OBC :D
Lyn Mc Posted July 9, 2016 #41 Share Posted July 9, 2016 This might seem a daft question but will they take your gratuities from this OBC? Presume the answer is yes but only ask this as Gratuities are not listed as one of the items this OBC can be used for. Thanks a lot Lyn

Thanks for this. The simplest thing (as I've had no email response yet) is to lodge a dispute with my credit company. I completed a transaction where I was quoted a price in sterling to be charged against my credit card, so it's not acceptable for this to have been take in $US. There have been many previous threads/posts complaining about this. I have no personal confirmation because we always book in sterling. Understood, but the transaction was in sterling on the payment screen. Other amenities I try to purchase if I log into my booking are very clearly marked as as $ purchases. But the transaction I did was via the UK website using the link highlighted in this thread, where I selected gifts to purchase, was asked to enter booking details and then forwarded to payment page for a sterling transaction. Had it been in $ I wouldn't have proceeded. I'd usually book the cruise in the UK but on this occasion it was less than 50% less to book from the USA. I will pursue a refund.
