What can be done in Australia if you have a bad cruise?

Recommended Posts

There would be but sometimes there may be some splash over.

Enthusiastic sweepers can send the water right over the side. It's happened to us more than once. A gentle reminder at the customer desk the next morning and it usually doesn't happen again :)

Another type of cabin to avoid is one with a connecting door!

We learned a valuable lesson on our first cruise many years ago when we were 'upgraded' to a balcony cabin one deck higher. This cabin was basically the same cabin but had an interconnecting door and we could hear everything from next door. Fortunately, the people next door weren't party animals :D so it wasn't too bad but lesson learned. We have also had a cabin with an interconnecting door on the QM2 when we booked late and had no choice and it was OK but we normally would not take the risk if there is a choice.

We otherwise choose our cabin carefully and get our TA to mark our booking 'no upgrade'. Sure, we may miss a great upgrade but we also avoid getting 'upgraded' to a dud cabin which is more likely. We usually also choose a cabin towards the aft on a sandwich deck as you tend to get less passing traffic.

I like how some ships have the adjoining cabins with the connecting doors by the hallway. But I know what you mean with sometimes hearing the neighbour through the doors. I haven't had it on a ship but have certainly had it in hotel rooms.

Like I have mentioned previously, no matter how well you pick your cabin, you don't always get to pick your neighbours.:(

Ear plugs can be useful.:D

We were on Solstice last week and never heard the slightest sound from our neigbours either side. Its a wonder they didn't hear our TV, or if they did they didn't say so, as some channels have different volume levels. On a couple of channels we needed the volume all the way up and if we changed channel we had to be ready to hit the "-" volume button or mute.

That can happen with changing channels, I had it once that the default channel (home page) when turning on the TV was really loud, had to be quick to mute before changing channels.
