Travel Duo, Part 1 Posted July 16, 2016 #1 Share Posted July 16, 2016 (edited) On our Celebrity cruise stop in St. Thomas, they don't seem to have a combination visit to Magens Bay and shopping. Would like to spend a good amount of time shopping. Any suggestions? Also, does anyone know if Jewels 'n' Style jewelry store (was at 17 Main St., St. Thomas) is still in business? Can't find them online. Edited July 16, 2016 by Travel Duo, Part
toberman Posted July 16, 2016 #2 Share Posted July 16, 2016 It is so easy to get around STT on your own. Just take a cab to Magens, come back whenever you want to shop. Ships tours are more expensive and you're stuck to their schedule.
Sixtytwo Posted July 16, 2016 #3 Share Posted July 16, 2016 I agree with toberman, just do these on your own! You can catch one of the open air taxis to Magens Bay and it is pretty inexpensive. Go back to Charlotte Amalie and shop until you want to stop. Easy peasy!
leaveitallbehind Posted July 16, 2016 #4 Share Posted July 16, 2016 ...and another vote to do it on your own. No need at all to pay the cruise line rate when a cab is all you need.
cb at sea Posted July 17, 2016 #5 Share Posted July 17, 2016 Absolutely NO need for an excursion to do those things! So simple on your own! Get a guidebook...learn something about your ports! Rarely do you need to pay someone to show you a good time...especially in the Caribbean! So easy on your own...all you need is a bit of info! Head to your library and pick up a guidebook! You'll save a bundle, and have a better time!

Travel Duo, Part 1 Posted July 17, 2016 Author #7 Share Posted July 17, 2016 You all are convincing. I want our newbie-to-cruising friends to see Magens Bay too. Maybe cab it to Magens Bay for the view; however, are cabs available from the bay to shopping on Main street?

Sixtytwo Posted July 17, 2016 #9 Share Posted July 17, 2016 Check out hiring one for a tour of the main sights on the island. Get them to drop you,off in Charlotte Amalie for, your shopping, then a tram back to the dock.
SadieN Posted July 17, 2016 #10 Share Posted July 17, 2016 A group of us hired a cab to Megan's from port. We arranged with our driver when to pick us up. There were also several cabs waiting for fares to leave the beach. Sent from my iPhone using Forums mobile app

Can't find them online. Hi there If you really feel uncomfortable going out on your own, the private tour operators on St. Thomas all have tours that include a few hours for shopping as well as going to the beach and an island tour. If you go to the "Port of Call thread" on the main forum board you will see a link for "Caribbean". If you click on that you will find links to all the Caribbean islands including St.Thomas. Read through and do a "search", you will find all the information you would need regarding the different operators. (they pretty much all offer the same products and are all very reliable) You just have to pick one. You can also do an internet search such as "St.Thomas island tour operators" and find these company names and go back to the St. Thomas thread here fro opinions. Trip advisor is also very good giving you people's thought on the tours and it allows you to ask questions if you are still unsure. hope this helps have a great cruise
