Clarea, I have a question for you Bob.

Recommended Posts

What we have done is set up a cash account, withdrew our OBC in the first few days then go to guest services and add a credit card to our file.

No 5% fee and no hassle about standing in line at guest services the last evening.

Big thanks for the tip Ken!

Have a friend trying to figure out how to get cash from his OBC without going to the casino and giving back 5%. He has gone to guest services and gotten cash there but it has always been a fight and he doesn't want that this time.

Thanks in advance.

Tim

Thanks for hooking me up Tim. For me this was a very informative thread. :D

The casino.

This system sounds great, but we don't gamble and have no idea how you do this. We have always used a credit card, and have no idea how a cash account works. We have an upcoming cruise with a large amount of OBC from RC and I would like to take out the cash and then use my credit card.

Do we need a down payment at checkin? Or will try draw from the OBC?

How do we get cash from the casino?

Can we take it all at once?

Thanks

Claire

No down payment needed, Royal will let you charge up to $500 beyond your credits befor ethey ask you to pay down the account.

Go to the casino cashier and ask for cash against your onboard account.

Don't know of any limits.

Thanks Bob. I assume I can then go add a credit card to my account easily?

Yes, do what Ken suggests and when you are all done withdrawing cash, go to Guest Services and tell them you want to switch to a credit card account.

Thanks for the information. So what is the 5%? If you go to the Casino and ask for cash against your onboard account they won't charge you anything?

I have a decent amount of OBC for my next cruise. I was just figuring out stuff to spend it on -- kids drink packages, stuff at Labadee, but there's still a little left over.

Thinking to just take it out upfront and then pay down the account after with it.

There was a daily $500 limit on withdrawals on our previous cruises.

If you take cash out of the casino and your Seapass is secured by a credit card you will be charged a 5% fee for the service. If your Seapass is a cash account then this fee is waived.

Can you cash a personal check while on board? What about an American Express gift check? I don't like carrying a lot of cash around.

Thanks

From the website,

Q: Do you accept personal checks, travelers checks and foreign currency?

A: The shops, lounges, shore excursions, and Spa operate on a cashless system, therefore guests must use the SeaPass card when purchasing beverages and services throughout the ship. The card can be activated at check-in with a Visa, Master Card, JCB, Diners Club, Carte Blanche or American Express credit card. Accounts can also be settled by cash or travelers checks. Personal checks and gift cards cannot be used to settle an onboard account at the end of the cruise. Most major foreign currencies can be exchanged for US dollars onboard. Please contact us for further information.

A guest may cash one check per cruise as follows:

One check up to $200.00 USD.

Only checks written in US dollars which are drawn against a US bank can be accepted.

Guests can no longer cash a personal check at the Casino cash desk; they can only do this at the Guest Relations or Guest Services Desk.

Guests can only cash one personal check per bank account per cruise.

Foreign Currency and Travelers Checks:

Guests cannot exchange more than USD $950 in travelers checks and foreign currency per day.

Guests can only exchange foreign currency and travelers checks for cash at the Guest Relations or Guest Services Desk.

Guests can only exchange foreign currency and travelers checks for chips and tokens in the Casino.

ATM Withdrawal:

The following cards (debit or credit) can be used to withdraw cash from the onboard ATM: Visa (Plus), MasterCard (Cirrus, Maestro), American Express, Pulse, NYCE, Discover/Novus, Quest. Most ships have an ATM available in the Casino and by the Guest Relations Desk.
