I have been doing WW since March-down 32! Yeah. Went on a 7day cruise in May-gained 5 lbs with being "careful". Another cruise coming up in early Dec.-Yes, I know-life is rough-it was a sudden decision and great price-inside cabin-Dec 4th. How much does everyone gain on a cruise? I tried to use the stairs as much as I could in May- had to go to Dr and get my knee injected after. i usually start out great-fall off the wagon later-help-any ideas? Want to do better this time. Thanks.

To me a five-pound weight gain on a seven-night cruise is not a big deal if--and that is a big if--you lose it right away after the cruise. Given that at least some of the gain is probably water gain from sodium because you are eating all of your meals prepared by someone else, that water gain should be gone in just a few days. If you are serious about your WW program and get right back on it, you should be back to pre-cruise weight in two weeks at the most.

I usually gain at least 5lb if not a little more..however I have to brag on my DH who had been on Nutrisystem for 2 mo before the 9 night cruise we just returned from. He was being very good, didn't order anything other than shrimp cocktail for appetizers, Ate very little bread, and only ate sugar free ice cream for dessert. He did take a few bites of my food, ate a few cookies and had a few cups of hot chocolate, but ended up losing 5lb! We did a little more walking than usual, so that may have helped since he hasn't been that active up to this point.

I did not really over eat that much on my cruise- I did not eat any of the rolls at dinner- I think it was a gain from eating 3 "meals" a day. And I drank some- light beer 1 day-and 1 day of foo foo drinks-did not drink every day though. At home I eat a really light breakfast-on the ship I ate a little more-no pastries of course. I only ate a cookie once. I did have dessert most evenings- I guess a few extra calories really adds up fast! I was just shocked that I gained 5 pounds in a week when I thought I was being more strict than I have every been on a cruise- I usually have pigged out-ate 2 rolls every dinner, tons of cookies, pastries, ice cream, etc. I did get back on my diet the day after I got home-lost it by being really careful in a week.I just do not want to gain more than 5 this trip- I am going to have to be more careful about the stairs with my bad knee. I think I will try to walk more-might go to the gymn some, could do laps around the track this time instead of stairs-thanks for all the ideas.

Know what you're going through with bad knees, we walked tons last cruise and I just spent a lot of time in the hot tubs. I have a lot of will power and was able to stay away from most of the bad things (doing low carb.) Lots of sea food, very little bread, no pasta. It's not easy, but hang in there and do the best you can... Enjoy.

  • 2 weeks later...

I gain about 5 lbs., but that is on a 10-14 day cruise. I definitely eat lots more than I do at home, but I do a lot of walking--3-4 miles a day and almost always take the stairs everywhere.

My husband, the stinker, usually loses weight! He eats more than normal too, but not as many desserts as i do. He also walks more than he does at home.

Unfortunately this year he is having major foot problems and probably won't be able to do much walking.
