Is the Chefs table included in The dinning packages?

I will eventually post more, but I would not eat again at the Chef's Table if they paid me. We were there Thursday night on the Anthem. The food and wine were fine, not awesome, but the dinner took 3-1/2 hours, at which time at least 5 of the 16 had left without finishing all of the courses or wine. Actually, it might have actually gone longer but I asked for the check gave the sommelier a tip and left while the other 9 people were still listening to him speak. I could tolerate a 2-1/2 hours as advertised but 3 hours, listening to some complete A hole monologue for at least the 2 hours that the sommelier wasn't in the room. Life is way to short to subject anyone to that torture.

By the way Bob is right not included in the multiple specialty dining venues deal. I enjoyed Wonderland more than the Chef's table and it was a normal length meal, and I didn't have to have a stranger pontificate through the whole meal. I have to give myself credit, I didn't say anything to the A Hole, and for those that know me here know how amazing that is!!!!:D

Can I piggy back on this and ask a dining package question?

Is the price listed on the website the total price for X dinners? So the 3 night dining package is $85 for all three meals? Do we get to pick which restaurants, or do they assign it?

The website isn't very clear on it, at least to me.

Yes, the price is the total price for all three meals.

They pick the first restaurant, you pick the others on board. You may or may not be able to change the first one, based on space availability.

You answered in a few dozen words with RCCL's website couldn't do in five pages. Thank you.

RC is perfectly capable of being accurate and succinct, however they choose obfuscation almost all the time. Just their corporate culture.

A guest. He was a real name dropper, and he may actually have known those people and he may have had those experiences in Afghanistan, but I doubt it.... Then he got off on politics while shutting down anyone with a conflicting opinion. I just sat there and churned on the inside when he made statements that were factually wrong again and again. My wife and my friends wife were the 4th and 5th people to leave before the end of the meal. It probably didn't help that he referred to the military dogs as equipment, when we had just put our 14 year old Welsh terrier down the week before we left. I agree that dogs are just like soldiers in that when you lose one you feel horrible, but they are not the same as a rifle or a canteen. Plus since he was putting himself out there as a semi war hero, it made it impossible to have a discussion with him without coming across as an unpatriotic A hole yourself.

The only problem with the staff was the incredible slowness of the different courses and wines. I did tip the sommelier, but it was horrible. I have gone to a lot of wine dinners at multiple hundreds a pop with a room full of complete strangers, and I have never had an experience as bad as this was.

I think people on a cruise reinvent their lives to make them seem more important than they probably are in real life. Not all for sure, but a larger percentage than you would meet in a local restaurant.

I am so sorry that you had to encounter such a person! Was he traveling with someone, and did that someone seem to agree with him or be embarrassed?

I actually booked the 3 night package this afternoon for $85 pp. It included the following: CHEFS TABLE, 150 PARK AVENUE and CHOPS. I booked it with David of their Oregon C&A office. I was able to start my dining package on the 2nd night since I booked via C&A as opposed to 1st night if you book on line. We are on the December 18 sailing of the Oasis.

David told me packages are ship specific so you can call C&A and check to see if Chefs Table is offered on your cruise.

I totaled the cost of the 3 restaurants using prices on RCCL site and it came to $177pp. I liked the $85 much better.

So the answer is YES and NO depending on which sailing and which ship. Spend the time and make the call.

His wife, who fit the description of living in his shadow... She had no opinion of anything, and I quit trying to change the conversation talking to her about things she had done on the cruise since it was night 8, and gave up after she told me she could never do the Northstar because it was simply terrifying.

If dinner had lasted 2 to 2-1/2 hours I could have managed, but 3-1/2 hours, we missed the 9:30 entertainer with a 6:30 dinner start time. I imagine the lumps at the other end of the table would have listened to him for the whole evening if the sommelier had brought more wine. Insane.

Well, here comes my stupid question as we are trying to plan dinner for our February Grandeur cruise.

If I took out a 3-night dinner package, but, are now D+ that provides us with a BOGO offer, how will that work as far as planning what nights we want to dine where?

If we wanted to eat in the MDR on the first night, can we do our BOGO on night 2, then, do our 3-night dining package from nights 3-9 since we are on a 9-night cruise?

And, they actually have the power and authority to tell you, and choose for you, the restaurant you will dine in on the first or second night if that's scripted in stone? What happens if you hate Chops and never want to eat there and that's the restaurant they choose for you?

Whatever the different options would be, if any, would be very helpful.

I think your best bet is to use your D+ BOGO coupon on night 2. Then see if they will sell you a dining package onboard, contingent on you picking the restaurants.

Bob,

Do you think they will offer better prices onboard? That was what I originally thought based on Celebrity experience. This offer today seemed pretty good since we are only Diamond.

On Celebrity in February I had a dining package similar and had no issues changing things around to suit my wishes. I don't know if I will be as lucky on RCCL. I had my entertainment booked and hope I am able to work around that schedule.

We had a similar experience on the Anthem as well but no braggart. It was such a long night and we were exhausted. We finally left about 2 1/2 hours into it. Never again!

We did chefs table last week on the Freedom and I had red wine spilled all over my white shirt pants and tie from a woman that was cut off and proceeded to grab her husbands wine and knock it all over me. She was then escorted out but the only thing I was offered was a free cleaning no refund or to come back at the next chefs table. Needless to say by the time they got my clothes the next day the wine had set in and they were totally ruined. Sorry I went off but the answer to your question is no it's not included.

The only time I was happy that long at dinner was a late night dinner almost 10 years ago, when we were invited to join the captain at Chops on the Navigator. We were drinking and eating so much that the head waiter was actually giving our table the stink eye. Lots of fun. In that occasion the captain made sure that everyone got their moment to talk and share. Not just some A hole talking and making themselves awesome to the other 15 people trapped at the table. My wife would kill me if I ever book the Chef's table again. She would literally kill me... We have been married 35 years.
