chamima Posted September 25, 2016 #26 Share Posted September 25, 2016 we used the luggage valet program the last few cruises and it was sooo worth it! You pay $20 per checked bag plus the airline bag fee, put the bag out the last night (keep our carry on bags with us) and see our baggage again at our home airport. Get our boarding passes on board and leave the ship leisurely, go right to security at the airport. Easy peasy This would not help a person with an early flight. Usually flight cannot depart before noon. Otherwise, it's great. It WAS great! Except that Celebrity has eliminated the program! :( Please email, call or snail mail Celebrity to let them know of your displeasure at the elimination of this program. It's our only chance of getting it reinstated .(They are the only cruise line to eliminate it ) https://secure.celebritycruises.com/contact-us/contact-us-domestic?cS=Footer&ICID=Cel_11Q4_web_hp_ftr_custsupport
Cruizen Susan Posted September 25, 2016 #27 Share Posted September 25, 2016 Have never used Luggage valet, but the idea really appeals to me. Just found this on the Celebrity website, I wonder how long before it's implemented. https://www.luggageforward.com/celebrity-cruises-luggage-valet/

If approximately $150/ bag is worth it to you then it's a great service.
Happy Cruiser 6143 Posted September 25, 2016 #29 Share Posted September 25, 2016 We will be staying in San Juan extra days after our cruse. The ship arrives at 7am. Check-in at the hotel is 4pm. So, we will be in no hurry to leave the boat. Would it be just as easy to leasurly pack in the morning and carry our own bags off? We will be just catching a cab to the hotel. That would be a good plan EXCEPT that you need to vacate your cabin by 8:00 a.m. So not so leisurely. Just put your bags out the night before, enjoy a leisurely breakfast, and get off when you feel like it. Generally they want everybody off by 9:30 or 10:00. Cab to your hotel and give them your bags to hold. Then you can go out and enjoy the town.
Cruizen Susan Posted September 25, 2016 #30 Share Posted September 25, 2016 I checked out this service. If approximately $150/ bag is worth it to you then it's a great service. Well now....people pay for luxury suites, people pay for specialty dining, and people pay for convenience. We could bring our carry-ons ourselves, and get the service for the two large suitcases. This would make DH a very "happy cruiser" ;)

It's $150 per bag per direction. So for 2 bags it would be $600 round trip IF I gave them a week to deliver in each direction. $518 for 2 day delivery of 2 bags (each direction) ($1036 round trip) $458 for 3 days ..........................( " ) .................. ($916 ) $358 for 4 days ........................... ( " ) ............... ( $716 ) Check for yourself https://www.luggageforward.com/ But it just doesn't seem like something the slightest bit comparable to the $40 that Luggage Valet charged. sasset Posted September 25, 2016 #32 Share Posted September 25, 2016 We used Luggage Forward from Civitavecchia to California last year as we were spending a couple of weeks post cruise in Italy. Pricey but it worked for us at the time. Luggage Valet only got the luggage onto your flight.

We get many of our flights free, due to frequent flyer miles, so this may be worth it sometimes.
Halfmoonfan Posted September 25, 2016 #34 Share Posted September 25, 2016 I guess we are different than most on this topic. We wait until late to disembark. We hate the rushing, lines, etc. of the last day. We took our last Celebrity cruise this past Christmas and returned to FLL. We have heard horror stories of the FLL airport on a cruise weekend, so we made other plans. We ordered a town car for 10:45 AM. Left the bags in the hall the night before, up for breakfast around 7. We walked out of our cabin @ 8:30 and had coffee, caught up on phone calls, and read a bit until 10:30. Walked off, had a porter wheel our bags through Customs and found our car. On this trip, we ended up spending a few days post cruise in Miami Beach.
ECCruise Posted September 25, 2016 #35 Share Posted September 25, 2016 Unless we have a whole day to kill for a hotel or a flight, we always self-disembark. Cannot see the attraction of waiting around, often with long delays, simply to save walking from the ship to the terminal with your bags, which you are going to do anyhow from port to airport and for the rest of the trip. We had a similar situation but just a late a flight out. We travel light so just had a roller bag and backpack each. We did self-disembark and kept our bags. We vacated our room by the required time. Had breakfast then hung out at the sunset bar until the last possible time they let people stay. I think it was about 9:30? We then grabbed a taxi to Barrachina and checked our bags there while we toured Old Town and the forts. Returned to enjoy pina coladas and food before getting our bags and heading to the airport. Worked great.
