mafig Posted October 1, 2016 #1 Share Posted October 1, 2016 With Hurricane Matthew approaching, what about Divina? She's in dry dock in the Bahamas? I know most ships head out to sea in the event of a hurricane, but Divina is in DRY dock. Wonder what they do?

Most models put the track going east of the Bahamas, but not by a great amount, the shipyard is on the western most tip of the islands so I hope she survives link to the info from the various models https://www.wunderground.com/hurricane/atlantic/2016/Hurricane-Matthew?map=ensmodel Pete

Rare Captain Funtime Posted October 1, 2016 #4 Share Posted October 1, 2016 I don't see a problem. I was in Miami preparing to depart when a Hurricane came right over Miami. We stayed tied to the pier overnight with two huge tugs pushing us against the pier. Left in the morning in calm seas. No worries :D:D
Rare Cruisergal1208 Posted October 2, 2016 #5 Share Posted October 2, 2016 Just got word from a crewman on board they are leaving dry dock to go to sea for safety.
mafig Posted October 2, 2016 Author #6 Share Posted October 2, 2016 Very interesting Cruisergal. I wonder how much of their work they finished and if they'll go back and get it done (and maybe cancelling next week's cruise) or if they'll just wait till the next one. Thanks for letting us all know.:)

I'm just asking because I think it's been years since a hurricane has hit Miami and I've never heard of them staying in port. PaulnKarl Posted October 3, 2016 #16 Share Posted October 3, 2016 Fascinating websites - thanks for posting. If the outside work is complete, the inside upgrades can be finished at sea.

We stayed tied to the pier overnight with two huge tugs pushing us against the pier. Left in the morning in calm seas. No worries :D:D It took me a little time to find it but.....It was Hurricane Irene, October 15, 1999. We were on Carnival Ecstasy in Miami. Had a balcony (U114). Lucky because back then there were very few balconies.

cruiseguyinorl Posted October 4, 2016 #22 Share Posted October 4, 2016 You think she'll stay there? According to my sources at MSC, since they were low on provisions due to dry dock, they are in port today to load supplies. Once that is accomplished and before Matthew gets too close, they will head out to sea. Bret
mafig Posted October 4, 2016 Author #23 Share Posted October 4, 2016 Thanks, Bret. That makes sense. I was wondering what MSC knew that everyone else didn't when they came back to Miami.:p

Rare BermudaBound2014 Posted October 5, 2016 #25 Share Posted October 5, 2016 You think she'll stay there? Doubtful, POM is expensive; although I suppose anything Is Possible w Msc. My guess is a short stop in port to pick up the things needed to keep renovations moving along while at sea. The Timing of Matthew has to be challenging.
