Are drink packages worth it?

Nope 20%. Keeping my eyes open for the 30%.

That's probably why then. The other poster said they booked when it was 30% off. It was a 3 or 4 day sale and it was the first time I've ever seen them put beverage packages on sale that low, and I would be surprised if they ever do it again without raising the base price first. I think it was a way for them to test the market with the new packages and new prices. But keep looking, just in case. I got an email notification about it, others did not. I think it was all part of the test. That's my conspiracy theory [emoji4]

That's exactly what happened on our cruise. When the 30% sale came out I checked and they had raised the base price. Overall it was a little less than what I paid with the 20% but not enough to bother.

I think it will be worth it for me. My question is with bottled water are you limited to one at a time? I'm thinking it would be nice to take two or three in my bag when going ashore or maybe be putting some in my cabin fridge.

Do they allow that?

That would be hard for me to justify. Water, coffee and tea can be found for free on board so if that's the majority of what someone drinks, I personally would feel the package is a waste. Especially the Deluxe. You could get those same drinks in the refreshment package for half the price. I know the paid coffee and tea are different than the free stuff, but I am a water drinker at home and could technically do without those things on a trip and not miss them, especially if they're costing me a couple hundred bucks. But I still understand why people like the packages and can find value in them for the sake of convenience and such.

Not everyone likes to drink the coffee or tea served for free and bottled water is much better than the free stuff. It a vacation so most want to enjoy it.

I don't drink but always buy my husband the drinks package. The cruise we just returned from, he had the premium which was upgraded to the deluxe and he always gets his moneys worth, from the fresh orange juice, specialty coffees, bottled water and the numerous drinks through the day.

We do not buy a drink package. We are D+ and go to the Diamond lounge for a pre/post dinner drink. We use our 3 vouchers each to get a couple bottles of water and beer and a couple cokes for the following day. I don't drink any type of coffee and DH only drinks a cup after dinner. If we want a drink during the show, we use one of our vouchers. We are not big drinkers and I like the flavored waters they serve, especially the mango flavored one.

We are also diamond members and suite guest and we take the package. We enjoy drinking when we want at the location of our choice so the package is well worth it. Imo. Also regarding water bottles, you can get a bottle at each bar if you want multiple bottles for your cabin or shore excursions

On RCI are Diamond vouchers valid outside the happy hour period? On Celebrity, vouchers are not valid except from 5-7pm.

DH buys the drink package, and enjoys trying different drinks,

I use the diamond benefit as well as visiting the suite lounge before dinner.

I can have a couple drinks in suite lounge and after dinner get a diamond drink or two in a bar during happy hour.

I rarely drink during the day and if I do, no harm no foul if I pay for one drink, for me cheaper than paying for the drink package.

Enjoy we do.

Just got an email about an up to 30% discount offer for the drink packages, excursions, specialty dining, internet packages.

Saved an additional $169.92 on our drink packages (from 20% to 30% off)

Saved $42.00 on our three specialty reservations.

Saved $107.88 on the internet package (50% off)

Unfortunately the excursion we have booked, NY Tour that will get us back to the airport for our flight home was not discounted.

I was looking at purchasing the deluxe drink package at 20% off, which is $46/person. Can someone who has been on Allure recently give me an idea of what a typical alcoholic drink costs? For example, a frozen type drink, a beer, etc? I'm just trying to figure out if we would drink enough each day to make it worthwhile, especially considering we'll be in ports 3 days and won't be on the ship for several hours those days. Thanks.

IMHO, I cannot imagine you coming out ahead on a drink package on RCI. We are on a 7 day cruise and that included 3 port calls. At $46/day/person...That is about $350 per person. To put that in perspective...Dos XX was $5.50 a bottle earlier today. Evian was $2.50 a bottle. Can of Coke was $2.00. Only you know your economics but when you factor in that you're paying for where days you maybe spending 10 hours ON SHORE...probably buying drinks there....I can't imagine you coming out ahead.

Again, only you know your economics.

I did the math today after looking at the sale. I did it in Aus $ but can convert to US if its helpful for people.

It came to $66 a day including grats and I worked out my average likely spend is $71. This was 1 coffee, 3 sodas, 4 bottles water, 1 cocktail (pina colada or similar) and 2 glasses wine. Its a 10 night cruise including 5 sea days or 6 if you count embarkation. The 4 days I get off the ship for ports I will still have the coffee before I go, the water, and the wine in the evenings. Probably at least 1 soda after getting back on the ship.

Remember this was just on minimums - many days I will likely have additional drinks at the show or in the casino after dinner.

It saves me carrying on 2 bottles of wine too :)

There seems to be no reduction on the site at the. Moment , weren't you lucky ?

I haven't checked today, but the sale was definitely there yesterday and a lot of people have been discussing it on various threads, so it wasn't just one person who got it, lots of people did. Check the prices of the things you're looking at because sometimes they are listed with a sale price even though t doesn't mention that it's on sale; especially if you're looking at it on your cell phone. Usually you can't see any reference to a sale unless you're on a computer.

Its not about if you get even on what you pay. Its the relaxation if drinking what you want when you want and not having to look at receipts or sign them and think about money. It breaks about even either way for me but not thinking about money every time i get a drink? Priceless.

I agree with the idea of there being some value in being able to just grab drinks and not worry about cost. At a certain price I would start to find value in that too, even if I didn't break even on the actual price.

At the current $46 (20% off) price, I personally still can't justify the value because I would never drink that many drinks in a week, but if my deluxe price went down to $38 (30% off) I would consider it, because at that point my break even is 3 drinks a day, and even if I only drank 2, I could justify sacrificing that third drink and trade it for the value of being able to just buy what I wanted without keeping count. Even then I might not buy it, but that is the price where I could start to see the value in the package. Anything more for me would just be completely throwing money away. I realize I can get bottled water and count that towards my drink count, but because I can drink water for free on board, and bring on my own bottled water for about $6 a case, I wouldn't find value in that.

[emoji4] I could do that on occasion depending on who I'm traveling with, but I cruise with my teenage daughter. If I were traveling with another adult I could do that, but I wouldn't do it every day; maybe just 1 or 3 out of 7, but those days might avg out for it being worth buying...at $38 or less.

I take it from what I am reading you have to buy the pkge for the whole cruise. Is it possible to buy just for sea days ????

Unfortunately no. You can buy the packages for less days, but the catch is that there have to be at least 4 days left on your cruise and once you buy it, you can't cancel it, and there's no guarantee that your sea days will be in those last 4 days.

For example, you can't buy it for the last 4 days of the cruise and then cancel it after just 2 of those days because you got through your sea day or whatever.

The other catch is that while the cost is pro-rated for those days, you'll be paying full price because it has to be done on board. You'd still save $120 though.

Onboard price of $64.90 ($55 +18%) times 4 days is $259.60. Price of all 7 days with the current 20% off discount, assuming the price for your cruise with the discount is $46, is $379.96. Difference of $120.36.

Remember it's not just alcohol though - would you drink juice or coffee or soda? Bottled water? My figures above included at least 1 coffee daily, 3 sodas and 3 bottles of water (maybe more if I take some on an excursion).

Edit: sorry I see you did mention bottled water already in another post - but so much more is available than just bottled water :)
