We joined Mariner in Montreal yesterday and thus far can report that the ship and crew are in great shape.

Some information:

Amenities: L'Occitaine Mer & Mistral (including body gel) plus Guerlain (inc body lotion) in PH

Entertainment: Still the Jean Ann Ryan Company

Signatures: The cheese trolley is still available, serving excellent French cheeses at the correct temperature

Any questions please ask and Internet willing we will try to respond

Flossie glad to hear all well on Mariner. I wasn't too keen on the new loccitane products compared to the previous ones,or the new Geurlan ones either.

When we were on August/end September it was the best service we have had, just perfect in every way.

Have a wonderful cruise and look forward to your reports. Jean.

Will be on the Mariner in January and wondered if we needed to bring a bar plug with two women or is there plenty of outlets. This will be my first time on a small ship.

Alice Faye

It depends upon what suite category you are in. Larger suites have more outlets. We tend to bring a bar plug with us (like this one https://smile.amazon.com/Bestten-Charger-Protector-Charging-Portable/dp/B016OPZCSY/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1477189936&sr=8-2&keywords=travel+plug+strip&refinements=p_72%3A2661618011 ) just in case.

I have used this power cube (with USB) on my trips. The removable adapters also let you use it in most countries.

We are Suite Category is E Concierge Suite

Suite Location is Deck 8 Like I said this is my first cruise on a smaller line. I know I want get lost on this ship. My friend will want the bed separated as I have to prop my legs to sleep and hardly ever lie down in the bed. Can you get extra pillows? We are celebrating me not dieing in 2013. My first cruise in 9 years. Can't wait.

Wonderful reason to celebrate!

I would take the "bar plug" just in case. You can have as many pillows as you want. Have a great cruise😹

Today is a day at sea and, since someone asked about activities recently, I thought it might be useful to outline today's schedule:

It is Sunday so started with a champagne & caviar breakfast. Weather is very poor so no deck games but a choice of the following organised events:

Lectures/Seminars: Smithsonian X 2; Future Cruises; Boutique seminar; Spa seminar

Games: Bridge lessons & play; Mah Jongg; indoor golf; darts; bocce; chess; bingo; trivia; treasure hunt

Casino: poker tournament; slot tournament

Other: ballroom-cha cha lesson; needlepoint; wine tasting; interdenominational service

Tonight is the Captain's Welcome Reception (unusually on the third night). Tonight's entertainment in the theatre is a visiting show pianist, Ryan Ahern. Last night's JAR performance was excellent

Service on board continues to be very good - smiling efficiency all round

Internet so far is better than expected with no major issues connecting and reasonable speeds

Just need an improvement in the weather to make a perfect cruise

How are the Smithsonian lectures, Flossie? We have found the quality to be inconsistent; the lectures on our most recent cruise being particularly poor. I'm hoping those will prove to be the exception and not the standard.

So glad everything is going well so far and hoping the weather will improve soonest!

I just wish they would do destination lectures instead. On our South America trip in January it's more military stuff and politics. I'd love to hear about the history of the areas we're visiting instead. They've never been good at that, except when Terry Breen is onboard.

Terry Breen and Sandra Bowen set the bar very high, I agree, Wendy. We too enjoy presentations on a relevant theme, though I'm actually quibbling about the quality of some of the presenters who are engaged under the Smithsonian banner as well. Whilst they may be experts in their field, some seem to lack the most basic presentation skills.

Yes, we preferred the previous L'Occitane fragrance. Not sure why Regent felt the need to change - perhaps the previous bottles did not fit in with the Designer's new colour scheme................or maybe L'Occitane had a few vats of the new one that they couldn't shift. ;)

Jury is out on the Guerlain products

I agree, the Smithsonian lecturers have been poor to mediocre at best compared to previous 'independent' lecturers who were generally much better.

The Smithsonian lecturer on board at present has some good topics (the history of European settlers into Canada & New England and the effect on indigenous peoples), but his presentations can be confusing with indistinct visual aids

Another good meal in CR last night - we both had the steamed lobster which was plentiful and yummy

A very rocky night due to high winds & rough seas; we are missing the port of Sydney today due to the adverse weather; hope that conditions improve for Halifax tomorrow

As it is another day at sea the Exec Chef is arranging an Asian themed lunch in La Veranda :)

Wonderful! I'm so glad the sun is shining for you in Halifax today. :)

I have been enjoying your updates immensely as my husband and I will be boarding the Mariner for the first time in Miami. Not only is this our first Regent cruise, this is our first EVER cruise. As you can imagine, we are beyond excited and feel like a couple of kids waiting for Christmas. :o

Looking forward to more of your updates.

Dined in Sette Mari last night after the Block Party; not our favourite venue but excellent table companions and good service

JAR performance postponed due to rough sea conditions

Harbour tour and a lobster lunch today in Halifax, Nova Scotia; cold but sunny all day. First touristic purchase of our vacation............a bottle of maple syrup

Just leaving port now as I pen this; Captain says that it may be a bit bumpy again tonight as he will have to be at full speed to reach our next stop, Saint John - our last port of call in Canada...........then we head down to Portland, Boston and New York

We still love the Mariner and hope they do not spoil her during the refurb next Spring...................if it ain't broke, don't try to fix it

Hooray! Who'd have thought you'd have cheered to be in Halifax? ;-) So glad the sun is shining for you x

Thanks, Gilly

We found Halifax, Nova Scotia to be subtly different to Halifax, Yorkshire..........although they both seem to like fish & chips :)
