jktheangel Posted October 31, 2016 #2 Share Posted October 31, 2016 We just did this for the empress of the seas. I would never cruise that ship again. Horrible service. Horrible food. Toilets get plugged all the time. The list goes on and on. I would do it again on a different ship just not the empress Sent from my iPhone using Forums

sammee Posted October 31, 2016 #4 Share Posted October 31, 2016 I just came in here to check on this. I received that email today. Problem is the dates don't work. I'm already booked on a Carnival. I can get off the ship on 12/3 and be in Tampa on time, but the taxes, tips & parking will not be there. The couple of January deals out of Port Canaveral are 3/4 dayers not worth the travel expense. Oh well, at least it was a nice piece of news with the crappy day I had, even though I can't possibly do it.
jktheangel Posted October 31, 2016 #5 Share Posted October 31, 2016 Something offered "free" there's always a price to pay ;) It's never free. We paid taxes and grats and upgraded to the JS which we were not told it was smaller than a normal balcony room. Service should always be there no matter what price Sent from my iPhone using Forums

ColoradoGurl Posted November 1, 2016 #9 Share Posted November 1, 2016 (edited) I got a similar deal last year, but I didn't find it worth doing because the offers were for short sailings on old ships, and I'd still have to pay airfare, hotel, taxes and port charges and tips. Those items always add up to more money for me than the actual cruise, and for the cheap cruise they were giving away, it was basically worthless to me. I didn't get the offer from the casino though, but from some vacation club that got ahold of my name. kruzerci Posted November 1, 2016 #10 Share Posted November 1, 2016 I'd rather pay a couple grand and really enjoy my time on a better, new ship. Vacation time is more valuable than the $400 free fare they offer on an old, tiny ship.

Your words seem to fit here Actually it is a great point... he wanted feedback and that's what he's getting.... Giving things away for free attracts the wrong type of clientele infact it devalues your product.. I own a business and rather eat inventory than give it away because then it'll always be in the consumers mind they can get it cheaper... A free cruise on the best ship is a promotional vehicle, a free cruise on the worst of the worst is a not good... I fly for free all over the world (so cost isn't the issue) but you couldn't pay me to be on a rinky dinky boat like that... And in a world where time is money that is not worth the time.. Debinnova Posted November 1, 2016 #13 Share Posted November 1, 2016 We just did this casino promo on Empress. We are retired, so had the time free. Offered free Ocean View and upgraded to a JS (which really is regular balcony cabin). Reviews said staff was amazing, friendly, excellent service, crew called them by name. We didn't see that. Saw polite, but that was the extent. Food in DR sub par at times, but enjoyed the cruise and ports, especially Key West. We are in Florida and retired - so no airfare or time off work required. It is what you make it. For us, it worked! Sent from my KFTHWA using Tapatalk HD

I fly for free all over the world (so cost isn't the issue) but you couldn't pay me to be on a rinky dinky boat like that... And in a world where time is money that is not worth the time.. That's a good point. What does RC get out of giving away a free cruise? Possibly the hopes of gaining a new customer who has discovered they like cruising, or introducing someone to a ship they may not have sailed otherwise. But more likely, they are getting a customer who just wants something simply because it's free, because most people who have the money to spend on a vacation will evaluate the other costs involved and would realize their money is better spent elsewhere, on a cruise or a vacation that they would have chosen if they did their research, not on a "free" cruise that they never would pay money to go on. I know lots of people like those small ships and short sailings, but they aren't the most popular and I feel like they are giving away rooms that they know won't be filled in hopes of getting some extra port fees and gratuities to pay their overhead expenses. By the time all the extras are paid for, that "free" cruise cost $1300. The cruise fare for those cruises is only like $300 ($600 for 2 people), if I'm willing to pay $1300 in airfare, hotels taxes, port fees and gratuities, then I'll just throw in the other $300 for the cruise fare at that point. Offering me something that's only worth $300 isn't gonna get me to impulse spend $1300 bucks just to get it. The people who don't think this through are people who are just thinking about the "FREEBIE." Or of course, people who live near the port, in which case, the former idea of introducing someone to a ship they've never considered might actually hold. However, I do see the flaw in this idea and that is people who just want a freebie aren't going to pay money to get to the freebie, so unless they get roped in to the trip before they realize they are responsible for paying their own airfare, the cruise line isn't necessarily attracting people who are only going to cruise when it's free, but I agree with the premise your presenting in that idea, and it is actually a real problem retailers are now facing because of all the sales that have been given over the years. People got used to knowing things would go on sale and now won't buy them until they are discounted...probably why we see so many "sales" on RC; people won't buy if they think they're paying full price. It's a problem for the company. Sent from my iPhone using Forums Edited November 1, 2016 by ColoradoGurl
MaritimeR&R Posted November 1, 2016 #15 Share Posted November 1, 2016 If you received the offer because of your play on a previous RCI cruise, try calling Casino Royale, 1-888-561-2234. They may be willing to credit you the price of the inside stateroom towards booking a different cruise.

koolkat327 Posted November 2, 2016 #17 Share Posted November 2, 2016 We just booked the 3 day majesty on 1/27 tonight. My husband got an ocean view room offer and I got an interior. They were able to combine our offers and gave us a junior suite for free. Just paid 244 for taxes and gratuities. I have a free companion ticket that expires end of January so flights should be about 350. Overall, pretty cheap. Wish we could have done a longer one, but can't afford the leave. MaritimeR&R Posted November 2, 2016 #19 Share Posted November 2, 2016 How do you get these offers? Sent from my iPhone using Forums Most times, these offers come from RCI's Casino Royale Player Program and are the result of having achieved a certain amount of points on your player's card from playing slots or by having your play monitored at the tables. sellwingri Posted November 2, 2016 #20 Share Posted November 2, 2016 I've taken advantage of the free cruise and upgraded from an ocean view to a grand suite. For a 7 day cruise on Liberty, it cost me under $2000 which is several thousand less than I'd pay with no offers. I've also used the credit toward a different cruise and saved at least $1000. These are all though Casino Royale. I play a lot of cards on cruises (only the table minimum or just above the minimum) and I get a lot of offers. I also drink for free in the casino. Some complain about the casino players program but I love it.
