Problem - TOO MUCH OBC ?

You may be thinking that this is a nice problem to have but ....

We pre-paid gratuities (shouldn't have done that) plus purchased $300. OBC thinking we would use it for excursions. As it turns out, we were out of the country when excursions opened up and got shut out/didn't clear wait list so we booked Independent tours not using Princess.

I'm trying to figure out if there's ways to get any of this back in cash?? Can we use any of this credit in the casino ? (we do enjoying some gambling).

Spa treatments are so outrageously priced, using it here would be a very last resort! Going to specialty restaurants will not work for us either as we're traveling with young grandchildren. We board the Ruby this Saturday, Nov. 19th.

I appreciate any suggestions.:) Thanks !!

Any OBC that you purchased is fully refundable, you'll get a generic looking envelope in the mail, don't throw it out, it's not junk mail, it's your refund check!

If you don't want to wait, load up a slot machine with credit from your account, spin once or twice and then cash out. :D

I like this idea (though I don't normally play the slots...). So I just put my cabin card in the machine and it asks how much (like puting a $100. bill in a machine, playing once and cashing out?) Thank you!!

It will ask you how much you want to charge to your account...you can take all $300 in on big chunk or break it down over a few days.

When done, take your card to the casino cashier and tell them you want to cash out.

When you first insert your card, it should prompt you to set up an account with a 4 digit pin......you'll also use that pin at the cashier cage when cashing out.

I read here once that there tends to be a slight problem if you don't play at least a couple of spins.

I like to buy perfumes with my obc credits but the prices have gone up on Perfumes and jewelry. So using the Casino slot machines was a better

option for me.

Times have changed. I remember the old days when diamond jewelry was so affordable. I miss the old days because every thing is so expensive now and the diamonds are over prices. I sometimes want to just buy me a tiny diamond ring. Years ago I bought me one for $200.

The Clearance sales have the $10. dollar watches that don''t always work so make sure you test it before buying one. The $10. jewelry is pretty but sometimes they break after wearing them a few times. The gold ones turn dark somewhat. I still buy some at times.

Go to the pursers desk and ask for your $300. or what is left of it, it is that simple.

Since you purchased your OBC it is no different than a cash account, in which all money is returned to you in cash at the end of the cruise.

Have you already made final payment for your cruise? cuz if not you could ask for a refund on your gratuities.

FYI...re the casino....you always can pull money out against your credit card, they will just charge you 3%. If you have a cash account(with cash in it) no such charge. Also any non refundable OBC gets hit with the 3% if you want to pull it out in cash at the cage. But, as others have posted with the slot/voucher you can avoid that.

And do you know why they started charging 2 and then 3% because people were using or should I say (abusing) the casino as an ATM.

Enjoy:)

You BOUGHT the $300...if you don't spend it, it will be refunded...you don't need to "take it out in the casino" and pay a fee. It's YOUR money...you will get it back if it's not spent!

Unless things have changed, there's no fee from the casino when using refundable OBC.

Thank you all so much for being so helpful !!

My problem has been solved by cancelling the pre-paid gratuities... whew! I hadn't even considered that as an option. Now we'll charge the gratuities to our cabin and have $100 OBC. We'll easily drink that up:D If I hadn't been able to cancel the pre-paid gratuities, I would have gotten the cash back using the slots.

CHEERS to all and thanks again !!

Enjoy, L:)ri

For my upcoming Alaskan cruise I have $450 of OBC

$100 Shareholders credit

$50 Travel Agent Group Promotion

$50 Onboard Sales Promotion

$150 Onboard Credit Promotion

$100 Military Benefit

If I take this $450 of OBC to the casino play a few minutes on a slot machine and cash out, how much of this $450 OBC is refundable?

Your cruise personalizer will show what is refundable vs non refundable. We have $550 on our upcoming cruise, plus we will get a gift from our TA of about $210. It looks like we will have to make a trip to the casino to get some cash out.

I am sure you are happy with your OBC put just want to say these were the kinds of posts that took place back in 2008 on the RCI boards...and then poof! RCI put an end to all the stackable OBC..and it was interesting because at around that time Princess started Military credit and stock ownership credit, believe it or not it has not always been this way and I am sure you both knew that, as u r most likely long time cruisers.

I just recently booked a cruise with Royal they advertised OBC, I was unable to get the perk because I already was receiving a Balcony discount and they determine this all by my C&A number.

Just sayin' OBC is just for that, not to get cash back.....so maybe in the future when we go into the casino to play and our card will only pop out a voucher with money we have won...and keep the OBC in place and make us use the OBC for just that.

Land lover, credit where credit is due! We had already made final payment (we board Saturday) but after reading your post, I thought it was worth a try. In our case, had we gotten the cash back, it would likely still ended up in the casino.:(

My husband & I normally cruise without our grand kids on a line that includes drinks, gratuities and excursions so it's easy... we just pack and show up.:) You either pay up front or once on board... all lines probably have a similar bottom line.

I'm with you all-inclusive works for me.

Thax for giving me credit;)...living in So Ca like u we need all we can get and I needed a pat on the back today...even if I did have to beg for it....

I am guessing it is Seabourn where you have found a niche with your Grand kids....

I am also guessing you might be leaving from the west coast on Ruby...this Saturday...if so we just returned on Oct. 22 from the MR....excellent staff and service...thought the Captain was a little full of himself...but those under him were fantastic,so what do we know. Food above average for a Princess ship. Have a wonderful time.....You'll probably spend that 300 in the casino anyway...:) but nice to have it in your pocket or actually as a credit to your CC.
