Griller Posted November 21, 2016 #26 Share Posted November 21, 2016 Always nice to hear a good positive review of one of the ships. The Royal class ships are one of our very favorites having sailed on them 7 times now. They are truly beautiful and the great design and cuisine of the Horizon Court/Bistro area is a gem. Correctly mentioned are the variety and quality of the food presented there. Alfredo's is another favorite spot with a very nice menu, quick attentive service and perfect location for a quick lunch or light evening meal. The small annoyances frequently mentioned in other threads regarding the Regal, will go away next year and we can get back to the positive information about itinerary and advice making the voyage even better. After my recent cruise on Regal and experiencing rudeness from several crew I was not going to book another on there so tried NCL Epic instead, after not being on NCL for 8 years I was amazed to find that not only the entertainment was way better but that the buffet and main dining room food, beds and cabin linens were better than Regal. I'm not abandoning Princess but am rather less loyal than I was.
dmdiver Posted November 21, 2016 #27 Share Posted November 21, 2016 Sorry to hear that the Regal was a bit difficult for you to navigate & based on your signature this was your first Princess cruise. All of the main locations on most Princess ships are in the same location so it's not a problem for regular Princess passengers to find their way around the Regal. ;) Not sure why it was necessary to weave through the casino when going from one end of the ship to the other. Promenade is the main passenger deck (7) & runs the full length of the ship without having to weave through the casino on Fiesta deck (6). Lol, I think it was that we were trying to get to something else on that particular deck. I don't mind going through the casino when it's a straight shot or at least a clear pathway to the other side. On this ship, I would walk into the casino without a clear view of where the exit was on the other side. It just messed with my bearings. Yes, this was my first time on Princess, so deck plans were totally new to me. Just really different from RCCL & CCL. But, variety is the spice of life, right? Kingofcool1947 Posted November 21, 2016 #28 Share Posted November 21, 2016 (edited) Greetings, we just got off the Regal Princess this last Sunday. Wow!! What a fantastic cruise... This was our 4th time sailing on Princess and 1st time on the Regal, and it was by far the best of all 4 Princess cruises. Food was exceptional. Normally we eat in the main dining room most evenings but on this particular cruise we ate 5 out of the 7 nights in the buffet. The selection and variety of food in the buffet was endless. They had some type of shrimp every evening and a variety of salads and carved meats etc..... Ship is beautiful, well taken care of, and always very clean.... We won in the casino, and saw lot's of people winning as well. Good selection and variety in the slot machines and they had $6 BJ every night too. I have been on over 30 cruises and this one was by far in the 5 for me. No complaints !! Thanks for the review. This will be our first sailing on Regal, 12/4/16. 7 day Caribbean cruise. Mid-ship Balcony on Caribe deck. We live in San Francisco, so usually cruise out of West Coast ports. Looking forward to trying out the many different dining venues. Love shrimp, other seafood. Questions: Is there a Crab Shack or seafood specialty restaurant on the Regal? On sea days, does Regal have Zumba? Ocean Terrace Seafood Bar is ala carte dining in the piazza & offers seafood for a fee. http://www.beyondships2.com/uploads/8/2/4/5/8245255/cr201_ocean_terrace.pdf Edited November 21, 2016 by Astro Flyer

Questions: Is there a Crab Shack or seafood specialty restaurant on the Regal? On sea days, does Regal have Zumba? There is a "Crab Shack" which is simply a specific section of the Lido set-up for the crab shack menu. The Regal also has the usual Crown Grill and Sabatinis. In addition, they have Alfredo's which is a fee-free Italian venue specializing in pizza and a few pastas. During one of your sea days they will also have the English Pub lunch (fish & chips, some pies, etc) which is a nice change of pace. Not sure if they have Zumba...but if it is offered there will be an extra fee. Hank

There are fees for some classes in the fitness center, but the Zumba classes are run by a member of the entertainment staff. My wife is an instructor at home and does not miss a class (on shore or at sea).

We enjoyed it at $19 but now would prefer the Crown Grill or Sabatini's for the same $29 fee. Princess ships have many options for shrimp & it's not worth it to me to pay $29 for the crab legs but others will feel differently. For $6 at Ocean Terrace I can get a crab cocktail & think it doesn't require cracking the legs. ;) Edited November 21, 2016 by Astro Flyer
trabeler Posted November 21, 2016 #35 Share Posted November 21, 2016 We were also on this 13 Nov sailing and the Crab Shack was done twice - once in the evening up at the buffet (normal place) and the last sea day it was done at lunch time in the Crown Grill area. Pub lunch was done once on the second sea day.

The fee is $29. The reports I hear was that it was really good. I noticed the Zumba on the sports deck. I don't know about any fees as we didn't use it. It IS fun to watch, though. They do have at least one "British Pub" style menu at least once a seven day cruise. it was really very good. Fish & Chips were outstanding. Best we've seen since Cunard line.
