Casino on Ovation not smoke-free?

Recommended Posts

Contacted RCI to find out if the casino was smoke-free from Australia. This is part of the reply:

"Thank you for contacting the Royal Caribbean Cruises.

In regards to your email, in the ship we have designated areas for smokers

also the casino is a smokers area so is not smoke-free area."

I know it is not smoke-free on the cruises from China, but would have thought that on cruises leaving from Australia, the casino would be. (Yes, I like a small flutter and I hate cigarette smoke).

Does anyone have any other advice as I know that RCI's advice in the past has been somewhat suspect?

Sadly, it does not surprise me that they have given you the wrong info. You would have to wonder if the person answering even checked the country you were asking about. Most of the time I am sure all the minions think everyone is sailing out of the USA.

It does surprise me that you got any answer at all! I am impressed by that even though it was hardly worth getting. :)

The poster being Diamond Plus shouldn't mean to insinuate that RCI get everything right.

I'm Diamond with RCI and agree that there's plenty they get wrong, and the information their call centre staff provide certainly leaves a lot to be desired - like facts and accuracy. But I'm still satisfied to continue cruising on their ships for a multitude of reasons. It doesn't discount any contradictory experience or feedback about this global company.

They do plenty right, but answering emails is not something we have had luck with over the years, and even talking to them on the phone can be hit and miss as to what information you get sometimes. Some of the info on the website is outdated also from time to time.

In regards to smoking the website is vague, and I presume the person answering emails didn't know the finer details of the last paragraph: "Please note that above policy is subject to revision in order to comply with current applicable health legislation, where countries have local smoking regulations. This may mean that smoking is prohibited except in designated outdoor areas or when arriving/departing certain ports."

I must say talking to them on the phone regarding bookings has been good, although we do book online mostly. I am loyal to Royal/Celebrity, but I will honestly say where they fall short on something.

As we often say, onboard experience is quite different from that of their website/shoreside. ;)

I'm not sure if they would have so many repeat visitors if it was solely based on shoreside service.

That is what I meant in my comment, the ship experience should mean a lot more than than a call centre in Guatamula maybe not being able to answer a question about a "local" issue.........although it would be nice if they could.

Yes it definitely does, speaking for myself anyway.
