freeon Posted December 20, 2016 #1 Share Posted December 20, 2016 We are booked on Escape in March and according to the itinerary it shows the boat docks at 8:00 am. Is this the time we can disembark or the time the ship docks? If dock what time can we get off. We are planing to book an international flight out of Fort Lauderdale at 10:55 and want to make sure it would give us enough time. Their is a private transport service that claims 1:00 from cruise terminal to airport so if we can disembark no later than 8:00 that would give us 2:00 at airport which should be enough. phillyguy31 Posted December 20, 2016 #2 Share Posted December 20, 2016 Keep in mind you still have to clear customs and assuming you are first off the ship with a lot of other people. I personally think you are cutting it close. There is no telling how long a wait you will have at the airport with checkin and then security. You just had a relaxing cruise why ruin it with the tension of getting to the airport. Sent from my SM-G530T using Tapatalk
packer99 Posted December 20, 2016 #3 Share Posted December 20, 2016 (edited) No way would I try it. What if the ship is late, what if you can't clear customs in time. Security at Fort Lauderdale on a Saturday can be very long. And if 8am is the start of disembark, you and every other traveler who decided to be on an early flight will be with you. . That would make me way too nervous. Edited December 20, 2016 by packer99
NCLfamily Posted December 20, 2016 #4 Share Posted December 20, 2016 Far too tight. As whenever these threads pop up, yes it could be done. But it also very easily could go horribly wrong. Sent from my iPhone using Forums mobile app
beerman2 Posted December 20, 2016 #5 Share Posted December 20, 2016 We docked at 7:00 in Oct. Self Debarkation started at 7:45. We were in line at 7:15 and it was BACK to OSheehans. Off and through customs about 8:15 and at FLL at 9:15 That is with no delays with ship or customs.
easyboy Posted December 20, 2016 #6 Share Posted December 20, 2016 It can be theoretically possible. But with a lot of factors to consider, like possible docking delay, dock clearance delay, road travel delay, lines for international flight checkin and security check, I will consider a later flight time. lee lehman Posted December 20, 2016 #7 Share Posted December 20, 2016 You should check with the airport and find out how early you have to be at the airport for an international flight. Our airport requires that we have to check in 3 hours prior to flight time on an international flight Sent from my iPad using Forums
phillyguy31 Posted December 20, 2016 #8 Share Posted December 20, 2016 If that is your only flight I would spend the night and enjoy Florida and fly out Sunday. Or see if MIA has a better option.
zqvol Posted December 20, 2016 #9 Share Posted December 20, 2016 You need to be at the airport 3 hours before departure for an International flight. FLL is typically a zoo on cruise disembarkation days, and doing anything takes forever. Don't forget that with an international flight you can't just check in using the kiosk, you have to have your documents checked at the counter., which can easily take 30 - 40 minutes, and the security lines can be another 30 - 40 minutes. It is simply too tight for you to even think about trying it.
freeon Posted December 20, 2016 Author #10 Share Posted December 20, 2016 Thank you all for the feedback. I think were going to take everyone's advise and take another flight. The main reason we wanted this one is because we would have a short layover on our connecting flight and be home at 6 pm. The other available flight has a 6:00 layover and we only land at midnight. I guess it's still better than missing a flight.
cruisegal40 Posted December 20, 2016 #11 Share Posted December 20, 2016 Just off the Escape. We were in early, but that could of been due to the engine issue that arose prior to Nassau. We were in port by 6:00. They started calling the self debarkation about 7:30. We took our time. At the airport by 9:15. I have to say it was one of the quickest debarkation with customs in some time. That said... smart move taking a later flight.
Bracarense Posted December 21, 2016 #12 Share Posted December 21, 2016 Hi. We're thinking of taking one of the NCL 's disembarkation tour of Miami that takes us to Miami International. How does this works with customs? Do we have priority?

You should be fine. You MUST carry all of your luggage off the ship yourself. Despite the advertised 8 am arrival, Escape self-walk-off usually starts around 7:30. It's about a 20 minute walk down the gangway, through the terminal, down into the baggage hall, and through customs. You should try to be in line by 6:45 (eat quick and hurry down to the line). We got in line at 7:00, and the line snaked through O'shehans and back into the casino. Plus, at 7:30, the elevators will be full and you'll never get down. There is very limited customs in Miami. Almost as fast as you can flash your passport (even as a non-US citizen) to an agent, you will be waved on. Lots of taxis available.
Cyclops32 Posted December 21, 2016 #14 Share Posted December 21, 2016 What does everyone think about Haven guest trying to make a 11 or 11:50 flight out of FLL? It would be a domestic flight. Figure we should be one of the first off and we also have TSA pre check so those should help but still a bit worried Sent from my XT1254 using Forums mobile app

The problem is security. I flew back from FLL on 12/3 after a wonderful week on Escape and the pre-check line was longer than the regular line. The guy in front of me had pre-check; his wife did not. She was through several minutes before we were. FLL needs to be expanded. With all the megaships, the airport is overtaxed. Barring any unforeseen circumstances, you should have no problem making your flight. Tracy
