Breakaway Drydock in 2018?

Noticed that Summer 2018 Bermuda sailings are on the Escape (because I just booked one) and Breakaway has no sailings scheduled.

Reasonable to assume Breakaway is going to drydock?

If so, I wonder if there are any major changes planned.

Norwegian Breakaway will depart her New York homeport on April 15 for the first time since her inaugural season in 2013 for a 12-day transatlantic voyage to London (Southampton). Following her arrival in Europe, Norwegian Breakaway will undergo enhancements in dry dock and then journey to her new seasonal homeport of Copenhagen, where she will sail nine-day Scandinavia & Russia cruises through the summer season

Breakaway will return to New York from Europe and will also sail seven-day Bahamas & Florida cruises from Manhattan during winter 2018/2019.

Gotta remember that the breakaway is an old ship. By the time she goes to dry dock in 2018, her sister the Getaway and Cousins Joy and Bliss will be sailing the seas. Time for a facelift already.

new theater seats and bigger atrium!

Yes yes yes. New theater seats

Btw that was a very serious consideration on our last cruise

BA to Bermuda

Or

Gem repo to San Juan

We thought it through but guess what ?

As soon as I remembered the ridiculous theater seats I immediately booked the gem

That's so funny - after we all (15 of us) experienced the BA theater seats first-hand in 2015, none of us could figure out why it was such a big deal. And I realize it's pretty much a universal consensus - so maybe my family just lacks a vertebrae or two.

I wonder if the lady liberty hull art will survive dry dock, knowing the ship is about to enter some distant waters...

The Breakaway theater seats suck for sure. An odd choice since they made such a big deal about the quality of the entertainment but did not build a comfortable theater.

Since I saw both shows the first time I cruised on her, it doesn't really matter anymore though. I don't need to see Rock of Ages or Burn the Floor again, so it's not a big consideration.

The Joy looks pretty promising--will have a 2 story go kart track!

They are putting the breakaway seats in all of the ship's fleet wide as they go through dry dock.

Really? That's an incredibly stupid move on their part if that is true

However I sailed the Gem 2x already post its dry dock and the theater seats WERE NOT replaced with those horrible BA theater seats so you are wrong in your assertion that BA seats are being installed fleet wide

  • 2 weeks later...
I just booked the BA for a cruise in October 2018 -- what's wrong with the theater seats?

They have a metal bar that is quite visible that goes across the back of the seat

9 out of 10 people will see it feel it and be sitting uncomfortably because of it

However the 1/10 that are oblivious to this metal bar will post that the seats are comfy cozy

They are incorrect.

The seats are very uncomfortable - our party of 5, 4 of the seats were actually broken. I agree that they need to do something about the nasty casino smoke that you can't avoid midship. Worst part about the BA. Our last trip was in Oct and many of the seats are sagging. Would love to see more outdoor seating near the restaurants.

I suppose this is a controversial opinion, but I don't know why they just don't ban smoking on all indoor areas of a cruise ship. Why does smoking need to be allowed in the casino in the first place?

I'm not sure why everyone needs to be subjected to that disgustinness just to appease a small portion of the population who doesn't want to break a terrible habit or can't spend 20 minutes at a slot machine without lighting up.

Let me start off by saying I'am not a smoker. I enjoy the casino on the ship and have found that a lot of the smokers are people that are coming in to have a cigarette/cigars not playing the games to avoid going outside. You need to play the games to smoke so if these people didn't smoke there it would help.

I heard that it is getting the new Jimmy Buffet Bar. I already have a trip booked for Nov of 2018 I had no idea it was going into dry dock.
