Rare teacherman Posted January 3, 2017 #1 Share Posted January 3, 2017 Our cruise is scheduled to arrive back in Amsterdam at 7:00 am on a Sunday in June. Choices for flights back to the US are 10:30 or 13:30. Both are non stop? Is the 10:30 easily doable? We have flown home from AMS several times, but never on disembarkation day. Information/advice is welcome. Thank you.
CruiserBruce Posted January 3, 2017 #2 Share Posted January 3, 2017 I would feel much safer with the 1:30. 10:30 is going to be very tight, particularly with the added security checks for a US bound flight.
Rare LHT28 Posted January 3, 2017 #3 Share Posted January 3, 2017 take the 1:30 pm flight Usually you need to check in 2-3 hr prior for international flights I would see what you airline recommends
RickT Posted January 3, 2017 #4 Share Posted January 3, 2017 Having sailed out of Amsterdam a couple times in the past few years I have to agree with CruiserBruce and LHT28. While you "might" catch the earlier flight, any number of issues could occur that could cause you to miss it. Since both flights are direct, book the later one and have a relaxing morning without any worries of missing your flight. Making a 10:30 flight would require you to be off the ship by 7:00 (IMHO) at the latest.

Depending on how you get to the airport. If you get a cab, Sunday morning in Amsterdam at that time is so quiet. You can be at the airport in 1/2 hour. If you take the train, I would count on 1 hour to 1.5 hours to the airport. The cruise terminal is really close Amsterdam central station. There is a tram that can take you there (1 stop). The train ride is about 15 minutes from central station to the airport. Hope that helps. Mr. Click Posted January 3, 2017 #6 Share Posted January 3, 2017 As others have said, the 13:30 flight is a better choice. Do you really want to end your vacation rushing and worrying? If you really want to make the 10:30am then you need to hope the ship docks on time, be ready to do an express departure carrying your own luggage off right at 7am and have a car waiting for you. Do not rely on taxis, the taxi cue at the Amsterdam cruise port can be long and slow.
Croooser Posted January 4, 2017 #7 Share Posted January 4, 2017 (edited) September 2015 we were able to do it. We carried our own bags off at a few minutes past 7 and were 2nd passengers off to get a taxi - so no wait. As said above - about 30 minutes with no traffic on a Sunday am. We were able to self check bags and make it through security in 30 minutes or so and were at our gate about 8:45 or so. Of course, it would be less rushed and more room for delays with a later flight. Edited January 4, 2017 by Croooser
