Cheers.... Heck yeah its worth it!

We have thought about it but for us we really don't drink enough to justify it considering I rarely if ever drink alcohol on the ship - I drink 1 milkshake a day - no coffee - so for me its better if I buy my drinks by themselves - For my husband maybe depending on how many sea days there are it might be worth it but not when the force me to buy it also so we always end up just buying his drinks by themselves

  • 2 weeks later...

I plan on buying the package for the first time - for the following reasons - I am basically a teetotaler 99% of the time except when I cruise. And then I only order drinks I know I like. With Cheers I will try some new and not feel obligated to finish if I don't like.

Hi On The Miracle last September they let us order multiple bottles of water at a time without a wait. I'm not sure if it would have been the same with an energy drink:)

I've asked this before and noticed someone else asked it on this thread and never got an answer. Does anyone know of any drinks priced at 50.00 or near that? I figure if I order one of those everyday I'll more than get my moneys worth.

I agree, about the both adults have to order the package. Makes no since to me. My sister does not drink either and she would still have to get the drink package with me. No way can I drink 30 of anything in a day.

What part about "sharing" is so complicated that it does not make sense? There has been plenty written on the sharing issue, if they let one person in the cabin buy it and they share the cheers drinks with the other adult in the cabin then Carnival loses that money.

Its a money thing people, I will admit that if my husband got the cheers package and I did not (I drink MAYBE 2 or 3 a day, maybe) we would for sure share off the package. Also, you have all those people that would share with underage people I am sure. It is not discriminatory against anyone, the rule is the same for ALL people no matter what when it comes to cheers, no exceptions period. If you dont want it then do what we do, buy drinks on your s & s card like normal.

There is really no possible way for Carnival to lose money on drink packages when they put a 15 drink limit per day on these Cheers packages. Why do they care if I drink all of my 15 drinks or if I share one or two? Im still getting cut off after 15 no matter what.

Other cruiselines have figured it out. They have no all adults must purchase policy nor a drink limit on their packages. Carnival cant seem to do so though.

I had it on my last cruise. I think I got my monies worth. It was fun to try drinks I normally would not.

I love getting the Gatorades to take off the ship. I did get a milkshake just because I could. Bottle waters were great to have throughout the day helped with heat and the drinking.

I love not worrying about how much the drink would cost me, how much my bill would be at the end.

I tried it, not sure if I would get it again...depends on if I'm cruising with just adults.

If you are a heavy drinker and or can really hold your liquor then I say purchase it for sure!!!

I agree- I think just the fact that I could try new drinks and not be worried if I would like it or not- makes it worth the cheers program for me. In the past I would order something that sounded good- and end up not caring for it. But- after paying $10 for the drink I didn't want to just throw it away, but now if I don't care for it I can just try something new. ;)

Seems pretty easy to hit the break even point- 2 drinks during the day, 2 drinks at dinner in the MDR and maybe 2 or 3 drinks in the evening during the show or while at piano bar- I can definitely see this working out for me and I'm not a heavy drinker by any means. Then add in milkshakes, specialty coffee drinks, bottled waters, energy drinks, etc.- and this would work out better than break even for me and my hubby.

Quick question though- while in a US port we will need to add in sales tax, correct? I'll be on an Alaskan cruise so all of the ports will be US except Victoria BC. TIA.

Precisely, Royal Caribbean has no limits on how many drinks and you don't have to purchase for the entire cabin. My experience was that they were pretty relaxed with it. I found Cheers to be generally fine, but a couple quirks that annoyed me. A waiting limit for my next drink and they wouldn't pour doubles. Which for me, gets annoying. I did enjoy trying the special drinks they had at dinner in the MDR.

That said, regarding the 15 limit, you aren't BUYING 15 drinks, per se... that's not the point of the limit. In that case, it would be a "package" of 15 drinks for $50. Which would never happen. 15 is to prevent abuse.

Personally, I get my monies worth. I can rather easily do 10 - 15 drinks per day. I also love just being able to randomly grab a drink when you stroll by the bar, bottle water, whatever you want.... When we meet up with friends and there is a bar nearby, we'll just grab a drink, why not? That relaxed approach and not thinking about whether I want to "buy a drink" is worth every penny. For those who don't want to drink a ton, by all means, skip the packages :)

I believe there are some brandy or cognac that may be up there in price ;) Probably not going to find too many that cost $50, but the top shelf liquors like Grey Goose, Hennessy, Patron, etc. all cost more than the previous $10 limit so it's nice that we can order them now if we want.

To bad Carnival made a bad decision in my eyes. We sailed on Princess and got their Soda & More package. It was $8.05 a day pp. It included soda, milkshakes and frozen non alcoholic drinks. When I ask John about this he wrote me back that I would be pleased with the future decision Carnival was making.

Well Carnival roll out their "enhanced Cheers Program". They gave all these benefits to the drinkers and nothing to the non alcoholic drinkers. Thanks for screwing us.

I know alcohol is a big money maker but please give those of us who don't drink some other options.

With pre-purchase, does the Cheers package start as soon as you board the ship? 15 drinks on day one?? Are coffees and morning drinks included on the final morning before leaving the ship?

If I remember correctly Yes with some exceptions like ships sailing out of Texas. I think you have to wait until day 2 for ships sailing out of Texas. We sailed out of Miami and stopped at the bar when you first enter the ship and got a drink. One other thing to remember that while you are in port you also pay sales tax on your drinks. I think it was something like $.70 per drink. You can also get drinks on disembarkment day but I found that most bars were closed and the coffee shop closed before 10 am.

Has anyone been able to order a mixed drink and a bottled water or gatorade at the same time? Is there a 5 minute wait in between the non alcoholic drinks also?

Depended on the bartender. I could order a mixed drink and a water at the same time but I could not order 2 waters without 5 minutes passing. For the most part the bartenders didn't care but the cash register was the issue. A couple of times they would give it to me and just wait to run the card. Seems kind of dumb that I could sit at the bar, drink the bottle of water (it is hot outside in the Caribbean) in front of them and have to wait to get another.

There was one bartender that refused to do water and a mixed drink at one time. He also was giving other people a hard time about giving 1 person with two cards (his and his spouse) 2 drinks even when the spouse was pointed out to be in the whirlpool. (And they can see the picture of each passenger when they swipe the card). I just avoided him the rest of the trip. His loss since we tip out each drink.

I agree that Carnival could do well with a "mini cheers" or "non- alcohol" package where it catered to those of us that regularly get a specialty coffee or milkshake (but not enough to warrant the cheers program). I would buy it (even with a limit attached per day). They would make money on me doing this :) and I would be happy to spend it.

Cheers is for alcoholics, wait my wife and I get cheers....:o......LoL My wife and I are not real heavy drinkers but usually when we cruise we get the alcohol package no matter which cruise line. We always make sure we are ahead of the game. She has no problems on hers because she drinks liquor and multiple fruity drinks, me no so much for all I drink is beer. This is not to mention pops, fresh squeezed OJ, ect...... that's included with these packages. One has to decide for him/her self to determine if cheers is for you. Now with all this said we are looking at a 14 day Alaskan cruise which in this case (14 days) we will probably not get the package, I don't think we could keep up for 14 days.

When I was younger (late 20's and 30's) I would go on these cruises and party all night! Even after having been a crew member for several years in my 20's, I loved cruising when I was land bound again! But I also found myself stressed over money the whole cruise to make sure I made it to the end! After the ships quit letting us freely bring alcohol on in moderation (we used to take blenders for goodness sake!), we had to worry about smuggling (gasp! flame away!).

Now that I am in my mid-40's and a Mom and soon to be remarried, it is a lot different! Cruising is one of the few times that I DO drink more, though not in excess. When on the Breeze with friends and the kids last year I still managed to hit break even or more. I didn't have to worry about the extras or even bottled water (which I might add that Carnival DID NOT have on their soda option for years), or about smuggling! CHEERS! simply made my trip a TON more enjoyable. And I never regretted the days I did not hit break even because the choice was there to do that! I considered it, like grats, part of my cruise fare as a drinker.

I HAVE seen people cut off. I HAVE seen them continue to serve gamblers even after cutoff. One in particular that was out of control in the casino spending (and my friend). The only thing that bugged me about having CHEERS!, is that I had the Casino card in just two or three days or so. BUT that only works in the Casino anyway. And won't be happening with 3 kids this time!

Having Cheers! on the Dream in July will certainly be happening. It serves a dual purpose for me! LOL! My fiancee is a BIG guy and can put them away. When he does drink (which is not every day) and if he gets Crown going, 15 single pours that he knows he has to spread out over the whole day (I am sure beer, too), will help our relationship (JK!) but also it makes us mindful. It is a legal and liability concern for the 15 cap for Carnival, but it is a smart way to control the atmosphere as well. And it will also help me control the costs! (HA! I bet many of you are thinking to yourselves it will also help me control my fiancee!)

With that being said it just makes sense for us. It seems high only until you get that $2000 bar bill at the end!!!! And the 15 limit is not only worked around all the time, but is a really good measure.
