ajtraveler66 Posted January 20, 2017 #1 Share Posted January 20, 2017 Going to be on the Carnival Elation next month. Any recommendations on beaches? Is it best to arrange an excursion or are there good beaches within walking distance of the port? Any information you have will be helpful. Any other activities that might be of interest for "young" senior adults--other than the beach? [We're all in our 60's].
Rare Btimmer Posted January 20, 2017 #2 Share Posted January 20, 2017 On Half Moon Cay, you can walk the entire island in under an hour. The beaches are clearly walkable from the tender port. We enjoyed feeding the sting rays as well as bicycling the island. Our snorkeling trip was cancelled on the last trip 2 years ago, so I can't comment on that aspect. Joskimo Posted January 23, 2017 #6 Share Posted January 23, 2017 we are going to Half Moon Cay next month as well and we weren't sure, other than the excursions, what amenities were available on the island.
suz1450 Posted January 23, 2017 #7 Share Posted January 23, 2017 We always just rent a cabana for the day. The beach at HMC is gorgeous! I wouldn't waste my time on an excursion. Sent from my iPhone using Forums mobile app

Rare Btimmer Posted January 30, 2017 #11 Share Posted January 30, 2017 We liked feeding the stingrays and bicycling the island. Others have liked just hanging out at the beach in a cabana. It really depends on what you like to do. Sent from my iPhone using Forums

Kimmisuecruiser Posted February 5, 2017 #13 Share Posted February 5, 2017 Are the beaches and chairs free Sent from my iPhone using Forums I would like to know this as well... we are hoping to just get off the boat and enjoy the beach. We are traveling with our 10 and 15 year old kids and they just want to play in the sand/ocean. Do we need to book anything?
CruiserBruce Posted February 5, 2017 #14 Share Posted February 5, 2017 Yes, the beach and chairs are free.

cb at sea Posted February 21, 2017 #16 Share Posted February 21, 2017 You do not need to book ANYTHING on HMC...it's a pure and simple "beach day"...the whole place is a beach! There are excursions you can pay for, but you don't need to in order to have a fabulous day there!
CruiserBruce Posted February 21, 2017 #17 Share Posted February 21, 2017 Where do you feed the sting rays? Does that cost additional? Sent from my iPhone using Forums Yes, that is a fee option. The stingray area is part of the inland body of water.
Rare Btimmer Posted February 22, 2017 #18 Share Posted February 22, 2017 Yes, that is a fee option. The stingray area is part of the inland body of water. It's a cool venue in a protected but connected to the ocean location. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
chong67 Posted February 25, 2017 #19 Share Posted February 25, 2017 I have a wonderful time on HBC. I walk far. I walk on the lime cliff rocks. I see sign that say you cant go further but I keep on walking. I hope one day to walk the whole island and come back on the port. Anyone done this? Here is what I did last week when I was there: http://www.mapmywalk.com/workout/2025073763
CruiserBruce Posted February 25, 2017 #20 Share Posted February 25, 2017 So, its okay to walk past the "No go" signs? I bet if something happened, you would sue the cruise lines for negligence, and claim the emergency response was too slow.
DrAllreeds Posted March 15, 2017 #21 Share Posted March 15, 2017 How do you pay for the new lobster shack lunch? Cash or sign and sail card? Or back on ship at end of cruise? I want to pay for 2 lunches for me and my wife. I am in a wheelchair. She can push me for BBQ, lobster lunches and drinks. What is best way? Will be at ROC airport till flight at 5:30am then will change planes in DC till we get down to FLL and embark on ms Rotterdam around lunchtime. Let me know best suggestions for this. pepere133 Posted March 27, 2017 #22 Share Posted March 27, 2017 Are there any shade areas with chairs or lounges?
eyern1 Posted March 30, 2017 #23 Share Posted March 30, 2017 Just got back. The further you go down the beach, the closer the trees are to the water and you can put a lounger under the trees. Also, there are hammocks scattered around that are somewhat shaded. They look like they belong to the cabanas but are fair game for anyone.
