Papa T Posted January 27, 2017 Author #26 Share Posted January 27, 2017 (edited) Now Diamond Plus after 4 years of cruising Royal Caribbean. 21 or so cruises. Never been offered an upgrade. We like RCCL, but we've only cruised NCL once and HAL twice. Going out on a Liberty cruise on 2/5. There wasn't any fanfare when we turned Diamond Plus. Seems like RCCL is missing a great opportunity to make their most loyal customers feel appreciated. We got a couple of luggage tags in the mail. It sticks in my craw more than just a little bit that a person in a suite who is cruising RCCL is treated better than we are. Hope someone w/ RCCL is listening. Sent from my iPhone using Forums With the new graduated point system and cruisers who appear to be almost living on the ships, 21 cruises probably won't place you high enough on the pecking order to get an upgrade. I have heard of folks who were upgraded because RCI needed a certain number of cabins in a certain category for a large group. In those cases seniority doesn't matter. I think we got our first upgrade after more than 30 RCI cruises: however, that was before the new point system. Princess several times and Carnival many years ago. One thing the killed alot of upgrades is the UPSALE FAIRY.They now call many and offer upgrades for extra cash. On thing I love on RC instead of X is 3 drinks on card, and also lounge. Also give each Diamond 24 hours internet and D+ get 48 hours each. We get 4 days free with our combined times. I just looked at VOOM prices for our cruise (too late to book online) and the rate was $11.99 a day (24 hours). Is 11.99 a big perk to you?? wolfganghowell Posted January 27, 2017 #30 Share Posted January 27, 2017 It sticks in my craw more than just a little bit that a person in a suite who is cruising RCCL is treated better than we are. Let's see - you have a balcony discount. You have a Diamond Lounge as well as the 3 free drinks. You have a few top tier events with free drinks. you have a free bag of laundry. Plus a few other little goodies. Can you describe what you would like as far as better treatment? Yes, suites have some nice perks. That's why they are more expensive. LindaO Posted January 27, 2017 #31 Share Posted January 27, 2017 Been upgraded on several cruises (yes, recently). Have never been offered an upsell. I enjoy the Lounges but lately I've been enjoying the bars around the ship... lounges are way too crowded. I do miss the reduced Casino tournament entry, which is no longer offered. setexenv Posted January 27, 2017 #32 Share Posted January 27, 2017 Let's add up everything I have spent on RCCL tab for 21+ cruises and compare that to the cost of a first-time cruiser in a suite for a week. No contest! The loyalty program is what it is. A person in a suite may never cruise w/ RCCL again, yet they not only get the suite, they get all of that stuff you mentioned X3. I am a RCCL stockholder, but if I see an issue, I reserve the right to say how it makes me feel. I use a few of the percs you mention but remember it took me 4 years to gain access to most of them!! Sent from my iPhone using Forums I somehow missed this..... Really.... Why shouldn't someone who is willing to pay for the perks trump out anyone with Status?? We pay high dollars for those suites. This is the attitude we see in the lounges.... and we have status as well... You must be looking for those free drinks.....

Is 11.99 a big perk to you?? Just to get the facts right, the perk is $20, the cost of a single 24 hour period of Surf. The $11.99 rate is if you buy the package for the entire cruise. Also give each Diamond 24 hours internet and D+ get 48 hours each. We get 4 days free with our combined times. To make sure I'm clear . . . a D+ couple would get four 24 hour days of internet? Can the hours be used over the course of the cruise or only on 4 days of the cruise? One big difference between RCI and X unless RCI has changed this in the 3 years since my last RCI cruise is technical support for internet users. My experience on RCI has been that you were pretty much on your own to connect to and use the internet. X for years has had dedicated techies assigned to the internet lab with fairly extensive hours of availability. X is an Apple outlet. They offer classes on Apple products and are happy to sell you Apple devices, but they are also very good with other platforms. If you use the internet with any of your devices or in the lab this support is a big deal.

Rare Deeliteful Posted January 27, 2017 #46 Share Posted January 27, 2017 (edited) I was upgraded on my very first RC cruise, I'm now diamond and it hasn't happened since that first cruise. Have to say I think X nickel and dime as much as RC, certainly did on my last X cruise. Edited January 27, 2017 by Deeliteful

I meant that each 24 hour period is consecutive So . . . on a 14 TA from Barcelona to Florida, for example, you would only be able to use this perk on 4 of 14 days???? Yes, though you could squeeze out 5 by using the second coupon to buy the last 3 days of the cruise package.
Scotty G Posted January 28, 2017 #50 Share Posted January 28, 2017 Do they still offer upgrades to high point cruisers on ships that don't fill (suites, etc.)? Yes, we have received several upgrades!
