WashyWashyHappyHappy95 Posted February 10, 2017 #1 Share Posted February 10, 2017 Am looking at April cruises for the Breakaway, and the rates seem unusually high? The April 9 sailing has balconies starting at around $2300 (I sail solo). Seems strange because this is AFTER final payment, and it looks like there are well over 100+ balconies and minisuites (insides and OV's are pretty full). Usually this is a slow month between the Spring Break rush and families getting ready for post-school year vacations. What gives? NCL clearly knows more than I do, but at those rates I don't see how they can fill those cabins in the relatively short span of barely over 8 weeks. ktpc2005 Posted February 10, 2017 #2 Share Posted February 10, 2017 Easter is the following Sunday (4/16) and here in New England a lot of schools have off that week. The ones that do not have off that week have the week after Easter off.
mjkacmom Posted February 10, 2017 #3 Share Posted February 10, 2017 That is a super peak week here in the northeast. Many schools here get a winter break, and that week off every year, regardless of when Easter falls. This year it's also Easter week, so even more families on holiday. cage keeper Posted February 10, 2017 #8 Share Posted February 10, 2017 Welcome to spring break and the cost of sailing out of NY which is more expensive than say Miami. Yes, and all the private schools in New England and the second two weeks of March. So March through April is peak season.
Chrisp2017 Posted February 24, 2017 #9 Share Posted February 24, 2017 Ah now I get why I spent so much for April 9th. It's my first cruise so I thought it was a great price till I ready this and compared other weeks. I hope the crowd and people make this peek week worth the extra $$& 😆

Rare BostonGal35 Posted February 24, 2017 #14 Share Posted February 24, 2017 i personally would never sail during April vacation or February vacation. Or summers and holiday sails for that matter. Too many children, the majority of whom are not supervised and run absolutely wild. and you pay a premium to sail these weeks to boot!
LadyBerard Posted February 24, 2017 #15 Share Posted February 24, 2017 I would never sail in April again either. Did it once and it was a longer cruise than 7 days. I think it was 11 nights. Sailed out of NY on April 1, 2007 on the Dawn. I NEVER expected there to be so many children on board as there was. It was awful. I can honestly say it was the only trip I wanted to end. cage keeper Posted February 24, 2017 #17 Share Posted February 24, 2017 better than the college spring breakers in march i'm on the BA this sunday, expecting mostly old people and chinese tourists I have never had a problem with spring breakers. All but two of our cruises have been in March. Lots of College and Private schools on break, as is the school I work at. Fingers crossed.

Many kids do not take spring break until early or mid April, especially when Easter is so late. I might also add, when Easter is earlier many couple like a mid April cruise. Of course the rates are not like High season, but it isn't low season either. The first couple of weeks in May are usually off season.
