How soon after the ship is cleared can pax get off? DH read somewhere that it is 2 hours after cleared and then you are to be back 2 hours before sailing.. We are traveling on the Sun to Alaska this June and were wondering if this holds true for Alaska? Thanks for any help. Pat

Local officials clear the ship at ports of call, then passengers may leave. Usually people with ship purchased excursions leave first. Times will be posted in the Freestyle Daily and as you leave the ship what time you need to return. Usually it is 30 minutes prior to the time of sailing.

The 2 hour rule is for embarkation day ( when you originally board for your sailing) not ports of call.

Being onboard 2 hours prior to sail away is ONLY for the initial boarding day.

At ports, you will need to be ON the ship 30 mins. prior to sail away. You can leave the ship as soon as they open the doors, and can come and go at will.

If a port is "tendered", it takes a bit longer, and you have to fill a large ferry, and then sail to the dock.

As soon as cleared they will start letting people off but remember that NCL excursions will often take precedence and others, in suites, will take advantage of using the Concierge. Those are especially true at tender ports. At tender ports make sure you get early tender tickets.

The "large ferry" may well just be an 80 seater lifeboat!!

In Alaska you can usually begin disembarking within 5 minutes of docking. The ship is normally cruising within the US and clearance procedures are very quick. Unless you are tendering there is no priority for NCL excursion to get off the ship. Feel free to skip the photographers if you don't want any pictures.
