mrlevin Posted June 15, 2017 #51 Share Posted June 15, 2017 Does anyone know where they found the room for six more suites (72 vs 66) while they went from six to four Adventurer cabins? As for these Adventurer cabins, does anyone know which ones are 157 sq ft and which are 167 sq ft? thanks, Marc
Observer Posted June 15, 2017 #52 Share Posted June 15, 2017 FYI...from Silversea: Managersof the cruise ship “Silver Explorer” (6057 grt) report that on departing thePort of Pembroke in winds of 30 knots and strong currents, the vessel madecontact with the Traynor Harbour buoy. As a result, the port propeller becameentangled with the buoy’s cable/chain which caused the M/E to overheat. The SilverExplorer returned to Pembroke Dock Ferry terminal and later to her berth inthe Pembroke Port by 1420 hrs escorted by harbour tugs. Divers then freed thepropeller and carried out a full inspections finding no damage, as reported bythe Milford Haven Coast Guard. There was no pollution and no injuries caused asa result of this incident. The Silver Explorer has been cleared tocontinue on passage. If this is in fact from Silversea, hats off to them for the transparency.
Erica@cruisecritic Posted June 16, 2017 #53 Share Posted June 16, 2017 Yes, Observer, I saw a news article and asked the PR rep for a statement and this is what he sent me. I was concerned because the article said it was a mechanical problem, but the statement indicates it was an unfortunate incident caused by bad weather. mrlevin Posted June 17, 2017 #54 Share Posted June 17, 2017 I found some of the additional cabins; there are now eight more View cabins on Deck 3. There were four larger cabins that have now been split into two. 310-321 are the same. 308 and 309 have been split into 306/308 and 307/309, respectively. 322 and 323 have been split into 322/324 and 323/325, respectively. So a net gain of four cabins minus the two Adventurer class on Deck 3 so a net increase of two cabins on Deck 3. I do not have an old deck plan for Decks 4, 5, and 7. Can someone help me out? thanks, Marc

Can someone help me out? thanks, Marc Marq, they did the same thing on deck 4. We were in the old 427 for our upcoming October cruise but it no longer exists in the new plan, as it was divided into two smaller cabins. So they moved us to an even nicer suite. I've attached a copy of the old deck plans from 2011 (small file) and the new plans (large file). I don't think they changed anything (WRT the cabin layouts) on 5 and 7 but I didn't look closely. The old library/internet cafe on 5 is now the boutique. Some of the other rooms (Spa, observation lounge) are renamed. The fitness center is expanded on deck 4. Etc. mrlevin Posted June 17, 2017 #56 Share Posted June 17, 2017 Many thanks! So the eight Expedition Suites have been split into eight view and eight vista suites and two Adventurer suites have been switched over to staff (and/or storage). It will be interesting to see the ship when full to see if the public spaces can handle twelve more people. Again, thanks for the old deck plans!! petlover Posted June 20, 2017 #58 Share Posted June 20, 2017 We will be in Cabin 321 (View category) in August. It's the same cabin we had on Antarctica and loved the location so re-booked it for Arctic cruise. Anyone know if there is still a tub/shower combination ?? I hope so. Rare RachelG Posted June 20, 2017 #59 Share Posted June 20, 2017 We are in 314 on same cruise as you, which is also a view cabin. We have stayed in that one before. It used to be tub/shower combo, and the silver box literature that we received last week still lists it as such. But I am not totally sure it is correct. I guess we will find out in August! lilpfef Posted July 29, 2017 #60 Share Posted July 29, 2017 Hello Silver Explorer fans, we just returned from the 10 day Longyearbyen to Tromso expedition on Explorer. The seas were calm and the skies unusually sunny, which helped to maximize viewing of several polar bears including one devouring a bearded seal. We were in 316, the same stateroom that we had, and loved, in Antarctica. Yes, all public rooms and staterooms have been refurbished with lighter colors. All tubs have been removed. Showers with rainwater and regular shower heads have good pressure but do result in more water in the floor. The staff tidies up 2 times per day so always fresh - large and soft - towels. There was a strange, loud noise on nights 2 and 3, that kept us awake, but the noise disappeared. The ship seems to be in good shape, all renos completed. Audio visual in the lecture room remains somewhat problematic. Service is outstanding. Food was very good, but not consistently great. Explorer is going to end its polar expeditions soon, possibly in 2018 and will be repositioned on the, west coast of the US. We will miss her, she's a great expedition ship! biggersn Posted August 3, 2017 #66 Share Posted August 3, 2017 We travelled on the Silver Explorer on 8 June from Portsmouth. Thankfully, everything was fixed by then and we had a lovely cruise. The food was superb and the refurbished rooms were great. The aforementioned incident with the propellor in Pembroke was handled very professionally by Silversea. The afternoon cruise to Skomer Island had to be cancelled due to this, but we weren't too fussed - we were just happy that the professional divers successfully untangled the chain from the propellor and that no damage was done.
