CruiserBruce Posted April 12, 2017 #2 Share Posted April 12, 2017 Seas are not predictable, and what someone had last week has no bearing on what you might experience this week. If sea sickness is a problem, you need to be prepared every day you are on a ship. There are many reports of calm seas, particularly in the Inside Passage. There are also reports of severe wind problems (typically late in the season) that have closed ports and causes significant issues onboard ships. In 19 cruises, the roughest seas we have ever experienced were 3 or 4 hours entering the San Juan de Fuca Strait- coming into Puget Sound- a good number of years ago. Note- it was on a very old ship without stabilizers.
Rare Coral Posted April 12, 2017 #3 Share Posted April 12, 2017 It can be rough the last day to Vancouver.
Budget Queen Posted April 13, 2017 #4 Share Posted April 13, 2017 I have cruised Alaska over 50 times, absolutely I have experienced "rough" seas. As mentioned above, totally unpredictable, and subjective to how "rough". But there certainly were motion sick passengers aboard. You are on water, expect movement. New Hampshire Posted April 13, 2017 #5 Share Posted April 13, 2017 I experienced very rough seas sailing from Seward across the Gulf of Alaska during the first first night and following day of the cruise.

Sequim88 Posted April 13, 2017 #7 Share Posted April 13, 2017 Gulf of Alaska crossing is the only place it would be "rough" on a southbound. Those use the Inside Passage and also go inside Vancouver Is. to Vancouver - unlike Seattle round trips that go outside the island and are more exposed. Possibly a little more wave action at Dixon Entrance and Queen Charlotte Sound but those stretches aren't too long and even there less than open ocean. Check out current waves and note the pale blue areas of 1-2 ft (basically nothing to a big ship) inside the islands. At the moment even the Gulf is relatively calm.
