Charles4515 Posted April 23, 2017 #3 Share Posted April 23, 2017 Important item in the article...the start of ferry service has been postponed two days, originally scheduled for Monday, it won't start until Wednesday. From the Bermuda ship schedule it does not look like any ships at the Dockyard those two days. That probably entered into the decision to postpone starting the St. George's the service until Wednesday.

True, but there is a ship in Hamilton until 2 pm tomorrow, and if any of those passengers are traveling around the island, they may have wanted to use the St. George ferry. Also a fair number of locals ride the ferry. I suspect the key words in the article are "near completion"...meaning they can't use the dock yet because work isn't finished, and that may be real reason for postponement of service. Anything is possible but it is not likely any one would want to use the St. George's ferry when their ship is leaving from Hamilton at 2:00. They would not make it back in time if they went by ferry. Also that ship is small. About 600 passengers. As to the fair number of locals, they don't run the St. George's ferry until the cruise season so the passengers are primarily from cruise ships. allentownahoy Posted April 25, 2017 #6 Share Posted April 25, 2017 Where is this new dock located in relation to the old one. Is it replacing the old one?
Charles4515 Posted April 26, 2017 #7 Share Posted April 26, 2017 Where is this new dock located in relation to the old one. Is it replacing the old one? It is on Pennos drive east of the old one. Not far but closer to the town square. The old one, at Pennos Wharf, is reverting back to a cruise ship dock.
Charles4515 Posted April 26, 2017 #8 Share Posted April 26, 2017 So the new ferry dock is not complete and the ferry is debarking passengers at Ordinance Island. That is just off the town square. Not accessible to persons with disability! http://www.royalgazette.com/news/article/20170426/st-georges-ferry-service-resumes
Maraprince Posted April 26, 2017 #9 Share Posted April 26, 2017 Will this new ferry service to St. George be ready by May 17? Approximately how long does it take from the Dockyard? How much does it cost? Thanks. MARAPRINCE

How much does it cost? Thanks. MARAPRINCE The very ferry service is running to St. George's but not to the new ferry dock. That is what it says if you read the article I linked to. None here can predict when the new ferry dock will be open. The article is vague. The only issue is that the temporary docking location is not accessible for those with disabilities. The fare is one token which costs $4.50 at the Visitor Information Centers or $5 cash. As has become routine those who cruise in May are beta testers for the year's cruise season. Today is the first big cruise day of the season so fresh report backs should be coming. Stay tuned. Edited April 26, 2017 by Charles4515

Will the ferry to St. George (either the current one or the new service) drop you off near the center of things? Last time I was in St. George was 2002 with Princess when they docked in all 3 ports and moved the ship. Now we will be on NCL for all 3 days in the Dockyard. The first day in Bermuda we are doing a tour of Hamilton and St. George by mini bus and the second day we would like to do just St. George. Our 3rd day and departure day, we plan to do the Dockyard. Thanks. MARAPRINCE

Walked right out into town square. Very convenient.
