Cruzgal31 Posted May 16, 2017 #1 Share Posted May 16, 2017 (edited) Ok all you cruise people. I'm starting to have second thoughts about the Carnival Breeze based on all the reviews I see about Carnival's constant fights, low class people, long lines for everything and crowded pools, basically "Walmart of the seas" type of stuff. Having never cruised before, I'm wondering for us two adults should we switch to the Royal Carribean Liberty of the Seas? Anyone done both? It's more expensive, but not incredibly so with deals happening and I'm wondering if it would be worth it to have a more relaxing vacation vs a potential "party" ship. We are embarking out of Galveston, or I would choose Celebrity as I love what I see if their stuff online. We don't drink, so that's not even a consideration for us btw-looking for relaxing, good ports, low key type of experience. I've liked what I've seen online of the Breeze, but am just not sure since we've never cruised before. This RCC I'm looking at goes to Cozumel, Georgetown, Grand Cayman, and Falmouth, Jamaica. The Breeze is going to Key West, Nassau, and Freeport. Appreciate the help! Edited May 16, 2017 by Cruzgal31 Forgot to add stuff.
cb at sea Posted May 16, 2017 #2 Share Posted May 16, 2017 Carnival is no more a 'party ship" than RCI...if you're going on a 3-4 nighter, both lines have their share of "partiers". On a 7 nighter...not so much on either line! Carnival's standard cabins are larger than RCI's. RCI's ships are better designed, in regards to "flow" and getting around. You can be as "low key" as you like on either cruise line! No worries!
Aquahound Posted May 16, 2017 #3 Share Posted May 16, 2017 That's a tough call. Both being week long cruises out of the same port, you'll get the same crowd on both ships. Difference is, at least in my experience, Carnival seems to foster a little more raucous behavior by their activities. Otherwise, there won't be a lot of difference. But with what else you said...being attracted to Celebrity...I would recommend RCI over Carnival. I just think RCI's ships are nicer than Carnival's. Plus, RCI has an adults only pool. One last opinion...I think RCI has some of the best entertainment at sea. Liberty does a 90 minute production of Saturday Night Fever that is excellent. Also, Liberty has the ice rink and the shows are unlike anything you'll see on other lines.
Bella Note Posted May 16, 2017 #4 Share Posted May 16, 2017 I've been on Liberty twice. Great shows and excellent ice show. We have stayed away from Carnival due to several friends saying that it doesn't quite measure up to RCCL. Also we love the adults only pool on RCCL. Very relaxing and enjoyable. SuiteTraveler Posted May 16, 2017 #5 Share Posted May 16, 2017 I was on Carnival Breeze last year and it was very nice. The best part was the spanish violin trio onboard - they played in the atrium but frankly should be headliners! The buffet is nice, the steakhouse is really good and the chef's table is great! The spa is the best place to hang out. I would stick with Carnival Breeze.
tatt2ed Posted May 16, 2017 #6 Share Posted May 16, 2017 Lol, depends on when you book too. I found booking the very lowest rate draws in more "walmart" cruisers. Never seen a fight after 7 cruises on carnival. Sent from my SM-G930P using Tapatalk
goraidders Posted May 17, 2017 #7 Share Posted May 17, 2017 I have been on Carnival Magic and Liberty of the Seas, as well as Oasis. I have enjoyed all three, and would do any one of them again. But I do have a preference for Royal Caribbean for two main reasons. 1. Overall I find their food to be better. It is not a huge margin, but still better. My mother says she got bored with Carnival's food before the week was over, but not with Liberty's food. (On a side note I thought the food on Liberty overall was better than Magic or Oasis.) 2. I like the entertainment on Royal Caribbean better. The shows are better, and more of them. Although I didn't really care for the Saturday Night Fever production, the rest of the shows were great. We just got off of Liberty the 14th. We had a great time. The ship is showing some wear here and there. There was some frayed carpets and other signs of wear, but nothing that interfered with our trip. My only complaint was the Casino was right next to the photo shop, so there was a cigarette smell when looking at pictures. It was pretty minor, and I am very sensitive to smoke smell. (Also did not like the location of the Magic's Casino. It too interfered with me personally.) But I know the ship doesn't revolve around me, and as I said to my daughter, "The more money they make in the casino the less they have to charge for our tickets." Liberty definitely did not have a party vibe to me. They had a club upstairs that was 18+ after a certain time. It may have been a party spot. I don't know, I was not looking for a party. There were a lot of kids on Liberty, but not a one of them caused me any problems. They must have been having a blast because none of them were loud or a nuisance. They were well behaved or apparently hidden in their rooms if they were not:) Also I did not notice Carnival being a lower class of people. Everyone on any of the ships I have been on seemed about the same.
bethco Posted May 17, 2017 #8 Share Posted May 17, 2017 The adult area on Carnival ships have no water. While its a lovely area, when you are hot you have to go elsewhere to get wet and there is little to no shade. In the Solarium, you can sit in the sun or the shade and get wet in the pool, hot tub, or shower.

Sky616 Posted May 18, 2017 #10 Share Posted May 18, 2017 Royal Caribbean has the nicer looking ships in my opinion with more to do. Liberty has ice rink, rock climbing walls, kids splash zone, waterslides, basketball court, etc.
Aggiebuttercup Posted May 23, 2017 #11 Share Posted May 23, 2017 When travelling with the kids, we do Liberty of the Seas. On our own, we take Carnival. We were on the Magic last, and LOVED it. I am addicted to the cove balconies - there were dolphins playing right below us in port, and we saw flying fish jumping at almost eye level. Carnival also has good comedians, including the adults-only shows - we don't ever miss these. Liberty of the Seas has the Quest adult show - if you sail on this ship, DO NOT MISS this experience. Both ships have good outdoor activities, although Liberty's new waterslides are better, IMO. I like the layout of the Liberty of the Seas a little better - we don't like cigarette smoke, and on the Magic/Breeze the casino is right in the middle of the ship, so I felt like I was always going up/down stairs and across to avoid the smoke. The "class" of people was the same on both ships - most of them lovely, a few not. We aren't drinkers, either, and we had plenty of fun on both ships without alcohol, and had no problem avoiding the drunks. I think you'll enjoy either ship. lisagro Posted May 23, 2017 #12 Share Posted May 23, 2017 I tried RCL and went right back to Carnival. The people, the food, the number of daily activities, and the staterooms all are more to my liking on Carnival. We are booked on the Breeze later this year!
