bizeebeth Posted May 30, 2017 #1 Share Posted May 30, 2017 :confused:Hello - We will be on the Epic soon and I would like to know if the ATMs onboard give out euros. Seems like they would because we are in Europe and I"m trying not to pack a lot of cash. Thanks!
FreestyleNovice Posted May 30, 2017 #2 Share Posted May 30, 2017 Any port on your Med itinerary will have an Euro ATM, for what it's worth.
MeHeartCruising Posted May 30, 2017 #3 Share Posted May 30, 2017 I don't think you'll find the ship's ATMs will give Euros. They give Dollars. The ship's service desk will convert to Euros for you, but they charge quite a fee to do so. If possible, I would just plan on stopping at an ATM when you get on shore. I've used European ATM's many, many times and never had a glitch (notify your bank ahead of time). Or if you don't think you will be able to get to an ATM, I would get Euros from your local bank before you travel.

The casino always operates in dollars as well. As a result, the ATM's on the ship give out dollars, not euros.
zqvol Posted May 30, 2017 #5 Share Posted May 30, 2017 Make sure that you check with your bank and get a debit card with a chip, and a four digit pin before you travel. More and more ATMs in Europe are requiring those two things.
bizeebeth Posted May 30, 2017 Author #6 Share Posted May 30, 2017 Thanks all! Yes, I plan on carrying some cash but will get some along the way, too.
Rare mking8288 Posted May 30, 2017 #7 Share Posted May 30, 2017 Check with your local AAA, members (a neighbor or friend can always help out) can exchange/buy popular currencies like Euro - better conversion than what you will find at the airports. cruisinsc1 Posted May 31, 2017 #8 Share Posted May 31, 2017 Recently came off the Epic and I can confirm that the ship uses dollars in Europe. ATM in casino dispenses dollars and accounts are settled in dollars too. AAA uses Wells Fargo Bank Foreign Exchange for conversions. Better than airports, but not better than using ATM's in Europe. Rare mcmomny Posted May 31, 2017 #9 Share Posted May 31, 2017 We purchased a small amount of Euros at AAA just to have some to start with and then we used ATM's at each port when needed. No problems at all, yes tell your bank and credit card companies about your travel dates and locations.
garycarla Posted May 31, 2017 #10 Share Posted May 31, 2017 ATM's in foreign ports work great. Our card actually rebates the ATM charges. (this is the only time we ever use a debit card - and this one is not tied to our regular checking acct)
