Here is our perspective of this cruise.

Embarkation

1. Boarding in Yokohama was an unmitigated goat rope, the worse we have ever experienced! The Japanese staff couldn’t distinguish the difference between Captain’s Club tier level and Suite status. Although we were suite passengers, they attempted to deny us priority boarding privileges.

2. At this Port, Celebrity needs to have more Ship’s Staff and better signage in the boarding area to mediate boarding issues.

Crew

1. Capt. Christodoulakis was commendable. Without doubt he is the best Captain we have ever sailed with! He is engaging, a true leader, and remarkable ambassador for Celebrity Cruise Line.

2. The staff of Michael’s Club and Luminae Restaurant were very attentive and made us feel at home. They all did a great job. Special kudos go out to Luminae waiter James(007), sommelier Leo, and Michaele’s Club Bar Tender Janna (?).

3. The British 3rd Mate (Officer) that conducted the bridge tour did an outstanding job! We have been on several bridge tours and didn’t really learn much. This young officer did an exceptional job telling us about bridge and docking operations,as well as explaining the functions of the different controls on the bridge console.

4. Our Suite Attendant Rockford was extremely attentive and responsive. He did a superb job and one day will make an excellent butler!

5. Our Butler Peter’s performance was acceptable, but not as good as expected or as good as we have experienced in the past. This may have been because this was the last cruise of his contract and he may have been experiencing some burn out.

Cruise Critic

1.The pre-cruise synergy between cruise critic members was fantastic and I think everyone learned a thing or two that added value to their respective experiences.

2. As has been noted in post cruise comments made on the roll call page for this cruise, the Meet and Greet was an anticlimactic and ho-hum gathering. The real highlight derived from our pre-cruise association was organization of a cabin crawl. Suggestions to anyone who organizes a future roll call are to consider organizing a gift exchange and pub crawl.

Suite(Celebrity Suite)

1. The bathtub is a potential hazard for older guest with mobility issues. It is too high and difficult to get in and out of. A separate shower would be useful.

2.The anti-slip fixtures in our tub were virtually non-existent and require immediate attention and replacement.

3.Lighting at the make-up table in the closet is very poor

4. There are no electrical outlets in the bathroom.

5. Unlike suites in other cruise lines, Celebrity doesn't provide coffee makers in their suites, at least on this ship.

6. While we have booked a Celebrity Suite in the past, this was the first time we booked one since the balcony was added. Thank-you Celebrity for that wonderful addition!

Shore Excursions

Tokyo/Yokohama

Having lived in Tokyo for 4-years we focused on meeting up with old friends. I did not hear any negative remarks from those who took ship organized shore excursions.

Hokadate

If you do your research, this is a place you can do on your own. Wonderful fish market!

“Sapporo”

I have been to Sapporo many times, but this was the first time for DW. She wanted to go, so we took a ship sponsored excursion. Eight-hour excursion, including a 4-hour round trip bus ride; ergo,4-hours in Sapporo. If you book this excursion, know what you want to do and where you want to go otherwise you will P*** away your time figuring out what you want to do.

Petropavlovsk

We booked a 4-hour private tour thru GoBe (a subsidiary of RCL). What a mistake,at least for this port. If you really want to see the most of what this city has to offer book a ship sponsored excursion.

Entertainment

1. We attended more entertainment events this cruise than ever before and enjoyed every show we saw.

2. Special mention goes out to the Silent Disco events. They were a blast!

Food

1.The best meal we had was a steamed halibut lunch in Luminae.

2. We sent back two entrees.

3. Our overall rating for menu selections and presentation was very good, but for overall food quality only mediocre to good. In a word, disappointing.

Disembarkation

1. Disembarkation was seamless and quick.

2. Locating our luggage was a challenge as there was no sign indicating the location of our disembarkation group’s luggage.

3. Navigating thru the arrival hall to Celebrity’s airport shuttle was a chore, exacerbated by the crush of passengers from twoother disembarking cruise ships.
