Pier on Pacific Coastal Cruise

Recommended Posts

Can anyone tell me which pier we will be docked at on the over night in San Francisco? Just trying to figure out walking distances. Also, how safe is the area at night? We are thinking about doing the night tour of Alcatraz and would probably be walking back.

Thanks in advance!

It will be very safe and it's only a short walk from either cruise pier to the ferry out to Alcatraz. The pier numbers are deceiving, best to Google Earth it and you will see. The ferry leaves from "Alcatraz Landing", which is in between Pier 33 & 31, and Pier 27 is only one over from their. We did the day tour out to Alcatraz last summer and I want to go back and do the night tour.

Looks like Pier 35 which is the older one but it is closer to Fisherman's Wharf

Yep, according the list it should be Pier 35 South. You can throw a baseball from the deck of the ship and hit the ferry to Alcatraz.

Plus, as I recall the "night" cruise leaves at 8:00 PM, which in September it will still be light going over.

Alcatraz after dark will be rather spooky. You do a self guided audio tour wearing headphones with great narration and even better background noise.

Coming back you should have one of the best views for the nighttime skyline as you can get anywhere.

Just for clarification, we won't have to walk over to Pier 39 to catch the ferry to Alcatraz? We'll be in SF at the beginning of October, on Explorer, arriving at pier 35. We'll be buying our Alcatraz tickets on line in July.
