going to nyc for 3 days pre transatlantic crossing. If we have any american dollars left (big if) can we use them to pay our onboard account. Just a bit worried in case we pay part cash and then they take the whole amount off our credit card, would it be difficult to get reimbursed as we wouldn't know until we got home.

No problem, just make the cash payment before the "account closed off time" on the final evening.

Yes, you can. If you are worried about your account being wrong, pay them early in the cruise and make sure your statement shows the cash payment.

I've done exactly this on a few occasions, don't worry. On your statement it shows as a payment, just like paying cash into a bank. Esp easy if you're paying in US $.

Do they accept £'s / euros?

I'm pretty sure they'll treat £'s and Euro's as foreign currency and charge you their going exchange rate, which is likely to be significantly higher than land based rates. You would be better off getting the dollars before boarding.

pollardtom, I have to agree with Trevor Fountain; they'll convert £ or Euros into US $ at a dreadful (for you, excellent for them) exchange rate. Best wishes :)
