My sister said Royal just went to no paper receipts when ordering drinks. I do not keep track of mine anyways however I do enjoy tipping extra even on my cheers package. This had me thinking....can I tip in cash on the ship or is it discouraged?

I think it's good they've gone paperless with no receipts. I always play with plastic, I never ever carry cash (I may have $3 in my wallet right now). If I ever go in a store for any reason which is very very rare I always tell them I don't need a receipt. Usually they print one anyway, wasting so much paper.

Sorry I guess it was very vague....I meant on Carnival. We have never tipped using cash, always on the signed receipt. I hate signing for drinks while I am at the pool. It would be nice if I no longer had too.

My next cruise is November, I'm going to bring a bunch of singles and try it that way!!

There is gratuity automatically charged to each drink. We don't tip over that unless we receive so additional or extraordinary service. Yes, you can tip in cash.

If you buy Cheers gratuities are added in to price. You aren't charged on each drink.

Without Cheers yes gratuities are added onto each drink.

Am I to understand that some of you are generously tipping above the 15% that I thought was tacked on? I hardly ever drink and I am thinking that perhaps I better check the etiquette as I never have tipped additional.

I buy Cheers. Cheers doesn't include a 15% tip per drink. They charge 15% of the package. So if a person drank $100 in alcohol a day on Cheers they really only tipped 7.5% if they weren't tipping additional.

Embarkation night is a Monday Night Football double header...the Saints are on, Hank Jr. is back, and I'll be in the skybox sports bar like

Lots of times you'll find if you go to something like Bingo often, you'll see the same servers, and I often hit them up mid-week or end-week with a $5... Also, a couple bucks during a service if we happen to get a few ice waters and only 1-2 drinks or sodas.

I like giving a dollar cash tip. That goes straight to the bartender or server whereas the receipt tips go in a pool they all split. I also found that I have gotten faster service and stronger drinks when I give a little extra.

Tips are 15% of the price tag of the item purchased. So, if you go to a restaurant you tip 15% of the price. So, no, you are not tipping 7.5%, you are tipping 15%. Just because the price is based on your math, it does not change the percentage tipped. Now, many people who get packages will get many "easy" drinks such as beer. I would think 15% is sufficient to pop the lid on my beer.

I would never tip a bartender 30-40% of the price. But anyone will tell you, it's much better to be a bartender, than a waiter, because drunks tip better. That was a quote from my daughter in law.

If you went to a restaurant and had a $50 meal...but you had a $25 coupon...would you tip the waiter based on $25 or $50?

I would tip based on the $50. I hope CCL goes paperless. But I also wish the info on the Hub App would save to your device's SD card so the info is available after the cruise is finished.
