Rare Copper10-8 Posted August 4, 2017 #70 Share Posted August 4, 2017 Do ships go halfway from the Canadian border to Ketchikan sans pilot? Roy No Canadian pilot requirement for those ships heading north "outside" Vancouver Island, i.e when Amsterdam departs Seattle, she has a Puget Sound pilot on board who is dropped off at Port Angeles, WA. No pilot required off Canadian waters on the voyage north, and then a SE Alaska pilot picked up at Pt McCartey, before arrival in Ketchikan. Ships going to Tracy/Endicott Arm Fjord pick up a SE Alaska pilot at Kake. Ships going to Glacier Bay at Cape Spencer. Those ships doing the Inside Passage from Vancouver require a (Canadian) BC pilot from departure

Rare rafinmd Posted August 4, 2017 #75 Share Posted August 4, 2017 I'm assuming the red line just above "Dixon Entrance" is the US border. Did I think wrong? I'm wondering about the space between there and Twin Island which appears to be about halfway to Ketchikan. US pilot, Canadian pilot or none? And Volendam is tucked behind the Amsterdam. Thanks Kathi, Lou & Dave, Copper, and fellow addicts. Roy
