ucmino Posted August 5, 2017 #1 Share Posted August 5, 2017 We are sailing on the Dawn in January and can't see on my docs what pier we are sailing out of in Puerto Rico, can anyone help with that? Much thanks. Sent from my iPad using Forums
Rare mking8288 Posted August 5, 2017 #2 Share Posted August 5, 2017 It's the Old San Juan Cruise Terminal, right in downtown & across the street from the hotels, etc. & one of the popular watering hole/landmark - Señor Frog's. Most likely to be Pier 1 - although the other piers are right next to each other, side-by-side. https://sanjuanpuertorico.com/cruises/
tmilak Posted August 5, 2017 #3 Share Posted August 5, 2017 Websites which provide this info are saying pier 4 downtown OSJ.
njhorseman Posted August 5, 2017 #4 Share Posted August 5, 2017 (edited) Last year when the Gem did a series of cruises from San Juan they used the Pan American Pier, not one of the piers in Old San Juan, some of which are not equipped to serve as a departure pier but rather only as a port-of-call pier. As I recall we found out they were using Pan american Pier very late in the game, only after the first Gem cruise departed from there rather than Old San Juan. I wouldn't be surprised if anything you see on a website today, or are told by NCL customer service today that says old San Juan might be incorrect, just as it was last year. brookie848 Posted August 5, 2017 #5 Share Posted August 5, 2017 Websites which provide this info are saying pier 4 downtown OSJ. This was confirmed to us via phone and email. The email we received from our PCC was obviously copied from something official from NCL, because it included directions from the airport to Pier 4. Numerous people on Dawn cruises have had Pier 4 confirmed.
garycarla Posted August 5, 2017 #6 Share Posted August 5, 2017 With all the confusion, I would not plan on anything until December or January.
jaapie Posted August 6, 2017 #7 Share Posted August 6, 2017 We were on the Dawn April 2017 cruise from New Orleans to Boston. We did not dock near old San Juan but we docked at the Pan Am pier. What was even worse was EVERYONE had to go through immigration, including all crew members. Whether some passengers and crew wanted to go ashore or not, we all had to get off the ship and go through immigration. Passengers went off first and we stood in line, first on the deck and then on the dock, for at least two and half hours to get through immigration (we are US citizens). We then got a taxi to the old town where we spent several very pleasant hours. On our return to the ship the crew were still standing in a looooong line waiting to go through immigration. That evening in the restaurant and bars the staff was really struggling to keep going as they had not had any time to rest between shifts or go ashore. And it wasn't as if San Juan was our last port of call before Boston, the day after San Juan we stopped in Tortola.
Jme4166 Posted August 7, 2017 #8 Share Posted August 7, 2017 We sailed out of San Juan Nov of 2016 and all of our paperwork said The Old San Juan pier....that changed early Oct. We ended up sailing from Pan Am and it sucked getting to and getting out. We sail again for Christmas this year and I am hoping it's not Pan Am Sent from my iPhone using Forums
herdingdogmom Posted August 7, 2017 #9 Share Posted August 7, 2017 NJhorse is right - it will be Pan Am pier. Taxis to and from are very easy with set rates. Lots of people were coming on board an hour or two before the 9:00 sail away last Nov in the Gem. And we made an early flight debarkation morning with no trouble.
