Colo Cruiser Posted August 10, 2017 #2 Share Posted August 10, 2017 if you book your own flights, can you still use princess transfers for part of your trip? Yes. Contact Princess or your travel agent to add them to your booking.
CruiserBruce Posted August 10, 2017 #3 Share Posted August 10, 2017 Agree. But you can usually do ground transportation cheaper on your own.
Rare Waynetor Posted August 10, 2017 #4 Share Posted August 10, 2017 Since you call yourself a Newbie, you may not be aware that private taxis or other shuttle options will be cheaper than Princess transfers. If sailing from a North American port, search the North American homeports section on CC, if sailing from somewhere else search the Ports of Call section for threads about transportation. Sorry, Alaska Newbie was my name from our Alaska cruise in 2009. Will be flying into Vancouver, cruise return to Vancouver, fly to Victoria then to Windsor. Our first cruise we did all princess hotels and transfers. It was just easier, hubby had had a stroke 2006 and we started travelling again and Alaska was the bucket list cruise. I'm sure we could get taxis from the airport and cruise port etc.
easyboy Posted August 10, 2017 #6 Share Posted August 10, 2017 Taxi is always cheaper due to shared fare compared with cruise lines' per person charge. Same is true with hotel packages.
ggprincess2004 Posted August 10, 2017 #7 Share Posted August 10, 2017 If you decide to take the Princess transfers for convenience, just make sure to check on the flight time restrictions coming and going As long as your independent flights meet the requirements it is not a problem at all. Just add them to your cruise booking.
Nicki828 Posted August 10, 2017 #8 Share Posted August 10, 2017 if you book your own flights, can you still use princess transfers for part of your trip? Yes. We booked our own flights, and initially had Transfers through Princess, but ended up cancelling when we found another company at half the price. nanabananna Posted August 10, 2017 #9 Share Posted August 10, 2017 Yes one can. Even with the cost it is so nice! Sent from my iPhone using Forums
WVBill Posted August 10, 2017 #10 Share Posted August 10, 2017 Other modes of transport may be less expensive but with a Princess Transfer you pick up your bags at baggage claim, roll them over to the Princess Rep's area and then don't touch them again until you are in your room. For a long cruise and/or multiple bags, for me anyway - that's priceless. :-)
Alaska Newbie Posted August 10, 2017 Author #11 Share Posted August 10, 2017 Thank you for the responses. I think our flights out will be with air Canada but after the cruise, and our other stops it will be westjet. They are more accommodating with passengers with disabilities. Rare martincath Posted August 10, 2017 #12 Share Posted August 10, 2017 Certainly in Vancouver and Victoria you'll find disabled-access cabs, set up for a wheelchair user, for the same price as all other cabs. You'll likely wait a few minutes longer at the curb as they're <20% of the fleet here but the cost is the same as a one person Princess transfer ($35 to the pier, $31 to most downtown hotels fixed rate). Treat yourself to a Skycap (a few $, depends how many bags) for lugging bags to the curb from baggage carousel and you won't need to schlep anything yourself all the way to the ship - longshoremen will collect from the taxi for free - so it's even LESS effort than a cruise transfer and you still save money!
