Post Final Payment Reduced Pricing

Mr. Click,

I wish you a great cruise as you certainly have the right attitude.

Based on what you have reported I do not think you are being treated correctly. If you can do a dummy booking and obtain a higher level cabin at a slightly higher price with all the same perks (and it does not say for new bookings only) you should be able to upgrade for the difference between what you have paid and the new price. (Not the difference between the current inside price and the new one) I wonder if there is some limitations because you are cruising solo?

I suggest you try to make a new booking at the higher level all the way to the payment step to make sure everything is included. (You probably will not be able to get any further discount off the current price). If you are willing to pay the new price difference I would try calling again and have them walk you through the reasons that you cannot pay for an upgrade. It might be worth the hassle as many of us have successfully upgraded after final payment numerous times.

I will check and see what I can find out about your cruise.

Enjoy your cruise.

P.S. I just checked and the OV rate is over $700 on the current site which is the $400 more that you mentioned. Probably not worth the effort if you cannot find the lower price on the Celebrity website. The $359 rate is per person assuming two people in the cabin.

Thank you Jagoffee. Yes I think I was not treated correctly. With the police and fire rates you do not receive any perks so at least the "will the perks survive" is not even an issue which makes me wonder even more. I paid 2X $349 for a total of $698 (inside) guarantee. THEN the police discount ( $200 was subtracted ). So yesterday I originally see the $349 for a OV guaranteed and as you saw it was 40 minutes of every excuse why no go. Then based upon the advice here ( has to be $1 more) I call back when I see I can book a specific OV cabin for 2X $269. Now the website doesn't know who I am..just a cold booking. I did not enter the website through any special deal portal. Again the run around. With this being an intended restful vacation I start to shy away from activity that starts to remind of work! I wonder if police, fire and military are maybe not a good deal. I was very mellow during both calls even suggesting at the end of the first call " you probably could have booked a penthouse suite or two instead of dealing with this" Cheers. Thanks again.

Wiltonians, why not just book with a US travel agent then? I have done that for my UK cousins when we travel together and it has worked well.

I did that, for a cruise next month. Booked before the brexit vote, then saw the effective price increase by around 20%, which made a "we can just about reasonably afford" cruise into a "do we really want to spend that much?", especially as it was NE/Canada, so other costs like hotels before/after, would also have been 20% more. So, with regret, we cancelled.

Since then, many cruises have been cheaper in the UK than on US sites, with the fall in sterling, but we'll certainly revisit that option next time we book a cruise, hoping that the £ can't get much lower against the $!

Thanks we are being told we will loose our (2) perks if we change, not sure why though as the Summer sales event includes 1 perk but when it goes to pricing the Celebrity website wants to charge us for the perk

With the change in cabin, you should at least receive the perks that are available to new bookings.

However, I am not sure what happens to any extra perks that come from an on-board booking. Currently on-board bookings are giving complementary 2 perks while on-land bookings are only giving 1 complementary perk. You might lose the extra perk with a change.

My onboard booking came with 2 perks for a cruise that only came with 1 free perk. I then changed my reservation to a different cruise that came with 1 perk. My TA confirmed with X that I get to keep the 2 perks.

I have tried to reprice to a new offer even before final payment and was not able to. Honestly, I don't let this stuff get to me. The cruise was worth what I originally paid so not getting a lower price doesn't upset me. Yeah, I love it when it works out. And it would be great if it works out for you. But don't let it upset you if it does not. Not worth the emotions :-)

Your response confuses me since, before final payment (and in the US) you can simply cancel your booking and then book the new, cheaper rate. What am I missing?

w - do you perchance know if other cruise lines, with a U.S. HQ operate in this manner or is it just X?

I know NCL has different terms for the UK. Part of it is due to differing laws. NCL does some fancy marketing where they say their beverage package is "FREE!" buy you have to pay 18% gratuity of the normal price, so it's really about $14 a day. They can't advertise it as "FREE!" in the UK due to consumer laws, but are free to use the practice here in the US. The other consideration is that NCL, RCCL and giant Carnival Corp all have UK subsidiaries and actually pay corporate income tax on their UK income (they don't pay any US corporate income tax). I believe that bookings made in the UK go through that subsidiary rather than the US corp directly.

UK cruisers may also be protected under ABTA and ATOL regulations that include some of the protections we pay for with trip insurance (reimbursement if the company goes out of business or if you have an extended flight delay).

Not exactly. For some prices it is new bookings only. There are some rules around the timing of canceling and rebooking. And like I said, the cruise was worth what I paid for it - so no big deal.
