RCCL Visa points?

I have redeemed for my upcoming cruise twice....once for 250 and once for 150. Both credits showed up in my cruise planner within a week of redemption. I did the redemption on the same page as my CC account. There was a rewards tab. I received an email both times verifying the redemption.

I don't think the free cruise is as good of a value as taking money off my cruise. Received $500.00 off two cruises and received $250.00 more in obc for the same cruises. Think I made out pretty good just for using their credit card

Oh wow awesome info, thanks. I'm gonna the points in today. If I can get 200-300 bucks I'll be very happy. That'll put a nice dent in whatever expenses we have on the ship. We have free gratuities except for my son. Just my wife and I have the free gratuities but that's really good.

They apply the redemptions in order of cruise date, so if your cruise is very far in the future, you may not see the OBC posted for months.

I know that I saw information somewhere on this site before explaining how to get cash back if you did not use all of the on board credit that you'd redeemed from your Visa Credit Card. . . but now I can't seem to remember the information I read or where I saw it exactly. It had to do with going to the casino, asking them to put a dollar amount on your Set Sail Pass then cashing out prior to using all of the amount to gamble. . .something like that. Can you advice?

Visa points OBC is fully refundable, so you don't have to use the casino. You can go to Guest Services on the last afternoon of the cruise and get a cash refund there.

Thanks to all for the great info on this thread. We will be sailing RCCL for the first time on the Adventure of the Seas out of San Juan 10-21-17 (maybe?? hopefully??). I had redeemed my Visa points for $150 onboard credit. Went into my Cruise Planner this morning and received a pop-up notification saying our account has been credited and explaining how it can be used. At the top, the credit shows beside order history.

We have sailed 9 times with Carnival and loved every one (some more than others naturally). But we are looking forward to new experiences.

This board has been a great help to me. I appreciate all the information posted here.

Good luck with San Juan. Very concerned about the hurricane approaching now.

We had obc from visa for our Allure 9/10/17 cruise which we had to cancel. Does anyone know how to get that refunded?

You can try calling Royal, but I don't think you can get that back. I know it's too late for this info, but you could have transferred the OBC to another cruise booking, had you done that before cancelling.

Thanks Bob! We did contact royal and nobody seems to know about the visa credit. I finally emailed one of the higher ups who was so good to us after our Quantum Debacle. She applied the Royal credit to our upcoming Anthem cruise. She didn't see the Visa credit on the Allure reservation so I guess I will try the bank. It really seems to be who you talk to about things. When we switched cruises the agent couldn't get our Royal OBC back but my higher up gave it back to me.

Has anyone used the RCI VISA credit card to get a 100% "free cruise"?

Sort of. It's definitely the best deal you can get with the card, but with RCCL back in Galveston full time, we usually use the points long before we've accrued enough for that deal.

When we were on our RCCL hiatus, we banked enough for a free OV for 2. That essentially gave us purchase power for their cheapest OV cabin. Then we were able to upgrade for the difference. We had to call the redemption center who gave us the exact $$ we had available and a reference number and then used a TA to book.

I believe they encouraged me to spend a little of my own money even if I didn't want a balcony as if the cruise was completely free I would not get C&A points.

Thanks for the info Bob, saves me a few steps since I prepaid with my visa card for all excursions, drinks and dining 😉

Yes. We've had our cards since 2003 and are cashing in points for our 6th one in January. Over the years, we have found it harder to use on the sailings we'd like. Back in 2011, we lucked out and were able to use our certificate on the Allure, but they have since changed the classes of ships you can use the 125,000 voucher on. We had a hard time trying to find a cruise to use it on this January. The ships sailing out of Florida at that time are either Oasis class, or doing something less or more than a 7 night itinerary (don't want to use it on something less than 7 nights as we want to get the most out of the redemption and can't use it on 8 nights or above) or super cheap sailings out of Tampa (again, not getting the most out of the points). So, we're heading to Galveston for the first time to sail on the Liberty.

We just traded in for the Citi Master Cards... 1% back as you spend, 1% back as you pay off. Figure we'll use our savings from that to put towards our travel fund from here on out.
